Hard to like the way they look! I think sometimes this camera is "liberating" (hope it's the right word) so no controls, no exposure just looking for something cool to photograph. Then no expectations on the results and no frustration if there's anything I like in the contact prints. It's liberating ... and a fun to use ... at least for me ...

Hating a Holga is the same thing as using a Holga. What do you think the black tape thing is all about? It's clearly sado-camera handling technique. By the way, to bet best results, learn to shoot one handed. Like this:

Chris101, that is grunge genre at its best. I will never hold a candle to you. BUT, Chris, I will keep trying. Maybe you could give a course down in AZ.
Here is one of my grunge tries, not with a Holga but my Holgaoid FirstSix (6x6):

John Stanmeyer of VII, in my opinion one of the best documentary photographers working today bothers.
Have a look at his presentation of excellent images of Bali mystics about 1/2 way down this page (http://www.viiphoto.com/video.php).
Some people do think that any picture taken with a Holga is a good picture simply because it's taken with a Holga. But in the hands of a skilled photographer with an eye for composition and timing, great images can be created with a Holga.

I see your point and I agree but I could add that changing the word "Holga" with "Leica" the concept would remain the same. Quite obvious, at least for me, that any camera in the hands of the talented photographer can create great images; no matter the gear for the good photo, it's the eye of the photographer that matters.
So if someone think that any photo is good just because it's taken with an Holga/Leica/Canon etc etc then again ... who cares?

I am just giving you guys a hard time. I love all of the images here and the camera does produce nice, dreamy and even grunge photos, in the right hands.
Do any of you guys subscribe to Shots magazine? Most of the photos published in the mag are shot with toy cameras, Holgas, Dianas, and so on. I have been a subscriber for many years, but oddly, I have never had the urge to try one of these types of cameras.
You guys keep posting, because I really do enjoy checking on the thread to see the new shots.

Shots started out as a zine about 25 years ago. In the beginning, it primarily published photos from people using toy cameras, Dianas, etc. The magazine has evolved over the years and, in my opinion, has gotten much better since Russel Joslin became the publisher. It is now one of the better art photography magazines around. And it is affordable. It is published quarterly and I believe that a subscription is still just 25.00 a year. I have been a subscriber for about 20 years. The magazine relys on very little advertising for revenue, so there are just a few ads in every issue.
Give it a try, I think you will be impressed with the quality of the work. You can also find it at some Barnes and Nobles and also some Borders bookstores. However, it is much easier to get the magazine by mail, as catching it in bookstores can be a bit iffy.

Holgarama!...The ability to control the overlap, or lack of it, of consecutive images on a film strip is Holga's strong suit. It may not be unique to Holga but is practiced witha Holga cameras more than any other. A great image siena!

Minuteman, that is one hell of a shot.
Nico keeps trying to talk me into getting a Holga. So far, I have resisted the temptation. However, I am using the new Nik Silver Efex B&W conversion software and it has a Holga filter on it for making your photos look like they were shot with a Holga. I have not tried it.......yet.

I keep deciding I should take the Holga out, but then I remember I already I have about 10 rolls of 120 I already cannot afford to get developed.
Hi, I'm new here. Personally, I love to Holga (if it's a verb..makes me think of polka...). Glad to see other people do too, with really nice images as a result.
Attachment has had its quality reduced to fit the attachment limit...maybe there was a better way to do it, but I'm new to this digital stuff. Not sure how to make them big like y'all did...oh well.
Cheers
Here's another holga, 135 film over the 6x6 mask.
(if anyone can help me post big pics and not little thumbnails while still keeping to the file size limits, much appreciated..I'm a digital dumbass).
Power to the Holga-people!
I've found taking pics with the Holga to be extremely fun. It actually got me back into film a few years ago as a result. I still take it with me whenever I go on holiday.

ahhaa ... that's Florence ... it was smelling like home!
Right you are, Nico. My wife and I were there last May, and it's become one of my favorite cities. Simply a wonderful place.

Meven,
Those b&w's you have of China have so much mood and character in them. That's the perfect camera for those type of pictures. Great job and please post more.
Everyone's photo's has inspired me to buy a Holga too. :-)
Here`s my fav Holga photo. My youngest daughter in front, and two of her friends.
Sometimes, the Holga is PERFECT.

I love the photos from Holga 120 Camera!!
I am wondering which Holga Camera is best for beginner.
And what is the different between plastic lens and glass lens.
Glass Lens:
http://www.holgacamera.com/holga-120gcfn-glass-lens-camera-with-color-flash/
Plastic lens:
http://www.holgacamera.com/holga-120cfn-plastic-lens-film-camera-with-internal-flash/
Find and original Holga 120S and fire away. Sorry, not sure about the later glass lenses.
So, my Holgas is being used again. I got around, did some more, bought some film. I listen to classical music, I walk around. I get pictures.

C. Hudson you make me want to get a Holga. I liked most of your images, just the subject on the ones I did not care for. Would you mind sharing what film you used and if you did your own film development?
I would love to Holga, but buying and processing C41 120 film is so expensive here... Anyone tried the 35mm Holga?
Yes, and it's a mixed bag..
If you expect the same results as with the 120 for a cheaper price, it will be a disappointment. First, the images don't have that dreaminess of the 120; there's not as much loss of sharpness and darkening near the corners. Another notable difference is that the lens isn't wide as the one on the 120 is, instead it can be considered somewhat longish.
Judged on its own merits though, the 135 isn't bad at all. It's built sturdier than the 120, and has a cable release socket. Frame advance doesn't require looking at a small window on the back. And, what it's really very good at is multiple exposures..

Holga GFN, glass-lensed. Lomo 100 film. Dirt is from a bad scanner, not the camera.

I know abandoned shopping carts are right up there with lone trees as a photo cliche but there's something really compelling about this image. Excellent work!
