Hey all!

A fellow Leica carrier (Roman) told me about this forum last week while at Look3 in Charlottesville. He said I should come around a mention the magazine I edit, Vewd, and post a request for entries. So here I am.

Vewd is a documentary photography magazine. We publish several galleries (online) from photographers around the world each month.

We are looking for photo series on any topic ranging in any length but consisting of between 10 and 50 photos. It is paid (each month) and you retain all copyrights.

The process to submit is easy, just go to our website (vewd.org), click the SUBMIT tab at the top. All the details are there. Create an account, upload your photos, and wait for your editor's review. We will even edit and give you feedback when we aren't interested in publishing.

It's run entirely by photographers so we do disappear to go shoot sometimes but thankfully you wont be bullied around by a bunch of MBA types and lawyers (not that there is anything wrong with those professions..)

I hope you will look into and pass this along to anyone who you know might have a story to share.

If you have questions or problems, contact me directly: matt@vewd.org

Thanks!

"At least 700 pixels on the longest side.
.JPEG/.JPG format
72dpi or higher
No larger than 1MB each"

Why do you care about dpi, if it's for online publishing and you ask for the pixel size to be at least 700 pixels? Pixel size is the only thing that matters.

Looks nice, anyway. I have something but no text with it. Maybe i will try.

Haha, the dpi. We understand dpi has nothing to do with web display but we kept getting questions from people saying "What dpi should I make the photos?" so we stuck it in there.

Oh and you should submit it, we don't need text. Its about the photos. Id prefer if the photos spoke to an audience on their own with no words.

Just to let you know, it doesn't seem to play nice with Safari... loaded the Hotel Poverty essay, and no pics...

Nice site. Good luck with the thing. Hopefully it takes off and everyone can benefit.

indeed has hiccups with Safari. If i look at a presentation and click on the 'next' or the image, sometimes the next image shows up out of the frame and all gets messed up...

Which is a shame, Safari being arguably the only browser that displays images as they were intended (re color space).

If you put your pics on the web you should resize and save in SRGB so everyone can see them properly - unless you're only interested in 0.95% of web users (those using Safari).

resize???

Of course i convert to srgb (in fact i use the save for web option most of the times). Still, i let the profile tag be attached. It does look sightly different when viewed without using the color profile info. Try it if you don't believe me.

We have been having a few hiccups with most all browsers, most notably Safari. If anyone here is a computer genius, drop me a PM, we really wish it worked better but we really have no idea what we are doing with that side of technology (to be honest about it).

As for nothing showing up for Shane Bauer's essay, that is a Flash video, it should work unless you block it somehow or don't have Flashplayer installed.

Most photos do show up ALMOST identically in sRGB but there is a bit of variation. I have heard that Firefox 3 is much better about it, so something to be excited about there. We convert all photos to sRGB unless for some reason the photographer won't license us to edit the photos, we show 100% respect to their wishes, even if the photos don't look as great.

I've gotten a couple submissions so far and the response on here is (by far) better than from any other forum or community. The work is professional and very good, I am so glad I found you all. :)
