Does anyone know where I can get black Leica dots besides DAG? He seems to be out, and $18 is a little excessive for a sticker.

Me too!! I would love to get my hand on the black one. And I'm also looking for the 'Leitz' one too!

Would appreciate if any kind soul could share their sources.

Cheers,

Not a sticker - it's a stamped, plated, painted, milled piece of metal.

$18? How many Starbucks is that? :D

If you don't like the red dot, ask me and I'll mail you one of these black dots to put over your red dot. :) http://www.digitalintrigue.net/photo_posts/m8dot.jpg

$18 won't even get you a cup at starbucks right? Remember when prices were sane, and coffee shops only charged $1.25 for coffee, and topped you off as much as you wanted?

Sorry about the misconception of the sticker. I got my info from here: http://www.nemeng.com/leica/017b.shtml

...so you can blame them. In any case, I have no way of confirming this, but I assume it's a massed produced aluminum metal and stamped on a conveyor belt and probably isn't hand-carved by people with tiny hands and extreme dexterity.

Maybe $18 might not be much relative to other Leica products, but in absolute terms, it's still about $18 for a sticker. I'm just trying to be reasonable. Then again, the argument can be made that if you're buying Leica...you have to be a bit unreasonable. :D

I have a black dot in the mail from Leica for free. It's amazing what asking can get you some times.

Chris, you're lucky. I read that Leica wouldn't mail the black ones because they used them for the special titanium M7 bodies.

To each their own. I like my dots red. They look kinda festive to me.

That's funny ... I emailed Leica customer service a couple of months ago asking for a black dot. They wouldn't give me one, but were happy to send along a red one. I bit the bullet and bought a black one from DAG. I like it.

So, since I have a registered M8, I can get a black dot?

Guess it's worth asking! Thanks for the email address, yoyo22.

Hi Erik,

Not completely done yet
Are you aware that the SPECIAL-FEATURES link gives a 404?

Looks good on my LHSA M6 ttl. One of the little pleasures of buying that particular camera. You could always buy one of those, I think PhotoVillage has one for about $2300. That's close enough the $18 DAG charges right? ;)

How is the red dot removed? And does the black replacement have an adhesive surface?

Also, is there a coin-slotted cover available for the (M7) battery compartment?

I used the tip of an exacto knife...it came off really easily.

yes, the black dot is adhesive.

I just spoke with the Parts Dept. at Leica NJ. No black dots available; no slotted battery covers either. :(

Marius, you must have received yours from Leica in the European continent. Leica in NJ will send the red ones for free, but not the black ones.

Wow. The vanity...

Leica ownership is vanity; don't you own an M8? :D
