Hi,

I've got the chance to buy either of these lenses, and it'll be my first venture into Leica glass. Obviously, one's f1.4 and the others f2, and I really want to do low light stuff. For that reason alone, is it a no-brainer? Or are there lots of other variables to take into account? The Summicron will cost me £500, and the Summilux £550- 600. It's a big investment, which I've already decided is necessary. I've thought about the KM Hexanon, but I know that I want Leica.

Any help appreciated.

both are excellent lenses. f2 is not slow, hand holdable down to 1/30 of a second and you can compensate by using faster film. that said the Summilux is also great and particularly good wide open. i have not done the math, but it seems to me the price difference is not that great. my early morning mind thinks that either the Cron is priced a little high, or the Lux a little low and therefore maybe that is the better deal between these two.

Thanks for that; it's the thought of the Summilux that's exciting me more, I must say. The price is still open to negotiation; how high would you go?
