View Full Version : Nikon RF Repair Resources?
Hi all - I bought the lovely S that LeicaTom had listed. It needs new shutter curtains. I have searched the forum for repair resource recommendations and found a few, but it would be nice to have a comprehensive list.
If you have a recommendation for someone who does a good job on Nikon repair and CLA, please add their contact info here.
Pete Smith of Fotocamera Repair, Inc. has an excellent reputation. I have not had a camera repaired by Pete, but he has done a bunch of my lenses.

I too have heard of Pete's work and would not hesitate sending it to him. You might want to think about replacing the shutter with one from a Nikon F. It is titanium like the newer SPs and is said to last a lifetime. Might cost you a bit more but it's just an idea.
I sent my S2 to Stephen (head bartender) at Cameraquest for a CLA before I got it from EvilBay and it came back smooth as silk. I can highly recommend Stephen as a straight shooter and delivers great work.

Another vote for Pete Smith - affordable, great work, lightning-fast turnaround, and a top-shelf human being. He'll fix you up right!

Ken Ruth at Photography at Bald Mountain did a great job giving my SP a CLA and cleaning the finder to make the rangefinder patch much brighter.
I bought a S the other week and has a shutter which is not working well... I have found a company here in Sweden doing service/repair on Nikon rangefinders... any opinions on what a "shutter"-service should cost ??

JonAround $250 for a new set of shutter curtains and full CLA.
That's why I never bought any S (most of them have dead shutter curtains while the S2 don't).

I took Fred's advice when I had a similar question about a CLA for an S2. I sent it to Pete Smith and was well satisfied with his work and prompt turn around.

Re my question above on what a full CLA incl adjusting the shutter for a Nikon S could cost I just today got a price suggestion from the camera shop I am using for my newly bought S.... 1700 SEK which corresponds to about 250 USD incl VAT..... (just as you suggested Highway 61!)
