Through the "grapevine" I just heard a dozen or so new SPs are being sold off (offered) for $4000 to dealers, in the US. The market is really getting soft. These new sets will most likely never be sold for anything above $5000~5500.
This seems a great price to me... is anyone still buying a new SP? Or are most of you taking my road and staying with the cameras we already own?

Fred,
I'm sticking with my S3-2000 for a LONG time. Besides money being still in the negative flow these days, I'm VERY happy with her. She does everything I want a RF to do.
While I would love to get the new 35/1.8, I'm not shooting enough to need to extra stop or increase in quality over the CV 35/2.5.
The only thing I'm keeping my eye out for these days is a F to S adapter. This would let me swap my CV 15 between all my systems (mind you I would have to swap my current LTM version).

Yes, I wish Cosina would build more F-S adapters!

The dealers were paying more than $4000 for SP 2005 kits before ???
I doubt any of the stores that have them priced at, or near, list price (here (http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/541535795.htm) and here (http://www.wolfcamera.com/product/541535795.htm) for example) actually sell any, when its fairly easy to find them cheaper. The SP 2005 kits that do sell are already selling at $5000 to $5500 (or less).
I agree that the market is soft at the moment, though that seems to be right across the board and not necessarily limited to these new Nikon SPs.

Bill, I shot the CV 35/2.5 alongside the new 35/1.8 a while back, and I gotta say I was really impressed with how the little CV 35/2.5 performed. Granted the extra stop of the new 35/1.8 is nice, but the quality difference is a lot less than you'd expect considering the price difference of the two lenses.
That said, I kept the Nikkor ...

I have the 1.8 and 2.5 Nikkors. I'm keeping both. :)
With the whole word moving massively into digital I guess it is only naturaly that you will se a bit of a soft market now.... may change in the future since this is still a "collectors" market also...
By the way - where did the "dozen or so" SPīs come from ??

Over $5000 originally, remember they were meant to sell over $6000.
Of course we will never know what deals were offered in Japan, they could have ended up being sold very cheaply. Just the fact that Japanese dealers are selling them for 4k it an indication of something.

Most dealers in Japan sell SP 2005 kits anywhere from 450,000 yen to 550,000 yen (one example is MAP Camera - link (http://tinyurl.com/6jszgd)). Pretty hard to do better than that ...

Jon that is a huge price span, 4200~5200.
I looked at your map link, why the price variation? Used, incomplete?
But if a dealer is dumping them NEW in the US for $4000 that is even less than your low figure, they must really not want them! Certainly below their cost.

Fred, MAP Camera's prices vary so much because their stock ranges from NIB to slightly used, plus they sell consignment items along with their own stock. My guess is that only their highest price cameras are new and come with the factory warranty.
SP 2005 kits would certainly sell better here if shops priced them at the yen equivalent of $4000.
I saw an original Mint black SP with the box. How much would it cost? I think it was an Olympic 5cm f1.4. I did not take a closer look as I was in a rush.

Probably in the range of $15,000 if truly mint.

I will go take a look on Wed. If it is near Mint, I guess the price would be about 2/3s.

A very surprising result. I can't help thinking that better quality dust free photos would have added $500 or so more to the final price ....

It's possible your theory is correct, but IMHO Ebay conspired on this. The old feedback calculation was always 100%, as there were no negatives, and one neutral, which counts for zero.
Recently they changed the calculation to be positives / (positives + neg + neutral) over the previous 12 month period. This single neutral dropped feedback from 100% to 45/46 = 97.8%.
If feedback is under 98%, buyer protection drops from $2,000 to $200.
On Aug 15 feedback will again be 100%.

I didn't realise that about the feedback calculation. That sucks big time, and would have certainly had a bearing on the final sale price.

about 1 year ago, I saw two Japanese ebay store sellers offering SP 2005 set at $39xx, they were quickly sold. so i think $4000 is pretty much the "dealer price".
recent closings on ebay of mint vintage SP are between $1900 and $2200, with a 50mm lens included.
