Most 35mm lenses, for 35mm cameras, I have seen have a DOF aperture scale that would give DOF from infinity down to 2.5m/~7ft at aperture 8.
Now, my Jupiter-12 says it will give me the same DOF at aperture 5.6.
It seems like the aperture scale for DOF is moved one step on the Jupiter.
So, did the Russians tolerate less sharpness than other optic manufacturers?

DOF is just a question of "circle of confusion", or how much unsharpness do you still accept as sharp. Depends mostly on planned enlargement size and viewing distance.

So the Russians simply chose a different CoC. If I remember correctly typical CoC is from 0.025 to 0.035mm.
