View Full Version : stuck frame counter
Since I am planning to sell my CL it would be nice to fix the frame counter. It is stuck at 38
Anyone knows how to do it?
I am currently working with 2 Cl's to repair one and CLA the other and have had to fix both frame counters ... what I have found is that there is a small pair of straight springs which act as the advance drive and one of them (toward the front of the camera) has a tendency to slip outward in its slot as the light shield tape softens with age. The tape slips down into the slot and doesn't allow the spring wire to return to the correct position even though it has a locating spring for the purpose.
Follow Justin's instructions as to how to remove the top plate, locate these two spring wires under the frame counter. With a fine pair of forceps/tweezers, gently clear the forward slot by pushing the light shield tape back where it belongs and push the front spring wire to the inboard position in the slot. I put just the advance handle back on and then cycled the camera a few times with a dummy roll film. This is to be sure you have it right. The counter immediately started working for me on both cameras after doing this. If it works for you, put it all back together. You're done!!!
BE CAREFUL, there is a small bushing below the screw, under the film advance lever which can fall out, or WORSE, into the works of the camera.
