Sensible price for a Nikkor S.C 50/1.4?

Not that I'm selling one, I'm after one to complete my current collection of 50s, but the only one I can find at the moment is from Kevin camera for ~$550, which frankly sounds rather expensive, so just want to know the normal going price for this lens? and in case any1 want to sell theirs =)

The days of a $100 5cm F1.4 in LTM seem to be over.

The one I sold was an exceptional piece. Be patient on ebay and you'll find one for less. Also, look for one attached to a Nicca thread mount Leica copy.

I bought my 5cm F1.4 in LTM from Midwest Photo Exchange for $95 about 5 years ago. A few marks on the front glass. I've posted a lot of sample photo's taken with it.

S-Mount, go for much less. $150 would bring up a good one.

A sensible price is whatever the market is ready to pay for it.

There is no technical reason why the Nikkor should be much cheaper, than, say a pre-asph Summilux from the early 70s. Yet nobody wonders about the Summilux prices.

You want it now at low risk, Kevin has it - he is very reliable and you can count on his descriptions.... If you can wait and take some risk: go on ebay. I bought my last one (Tokyo) for less than US 300 incl shipping.

One thing you could try is buy a Nicca/50-1.4 combo and sell the camera afterwards. For some reason they show up cheap, occasionally.

Used price will strongly depend on version: early Tokyo or 5005xxx lenses, vs. Japan all chrome, vs. late black rim lenses.

I bought a chrome one for 300$ last month, optics are good (minor cleaning marks) but cosmetics are average (few dents and rust spots).

On a side note, does the S-mount version fits with Contax bodies, like the Contax II and focus correctly ? I dont have much time left to acquire one, and Nikon S bodies are ridiculously expensive so if they do mate, I'll go the Contax route

Actually a good user S2 is usually cheaper than an equivalent condition (and age and feature set) M3. The S mount 50/1.4s are quite a bit cheaper and often in great shape, there isn't a focusing helical on the 50. If it's not there, it can't fail and never needs service. :)

Roland.Nikon never made any 'C' labelled 50/1.4 or 50/2. Only 'C' Nikkor lenses were the 85/2, 105/2.5 and 135/3.5.

I'm still surprised to read such mistakes after the tons of threads about the 'C' Nikkor lenses and the Contax/Nikon in-compatibility over there at the Nikon RF forum, almost all of these threads pointing at the page of cameraquest.com which deals with that matter for folks wanting to know more about it.

Nikon did not make a 'C'ontax version of the 5cm lenses. A 5cm F1.4 will front-focus on a Contax. You can reduce the shim, or move the rear optics module out slightly from the front group. The latter effectively increases the focal length "ever-so-slightly'. Prices on S2's are way down, I've seen some S2 bodies with 5cm f1.4 lenses for under $400.
