Erwin Puts wrote a lengthy review about it here:

cool
thx
will have a read
Love my 2.8. Beautifully detailed shots, great color rendition, zippo distortion, almost no flare issues at all unless shooting with the sun in the field and then still well controlled. Get two, double your fun.

Here's a shot I did with the 21mm Biogon

It shares most of the characteristics of the Biogon 2.8/25 ZM which you don't like...

If I could only own three lenses for 35mm cameras, it would be one of the three.

Whoops, I just noticed this is a ZI thread. My 21mm Biogon is a ContaxG mount.
I suspect that optically they are identical. Only difference is price. I paid $650 for mine and the finder when it was new.
like my G 21;
very good color rendition, contrast and sharpness even wide open.
I normally shoot slides.
I also noticed too late, that you asked for ZI 21, sorry

They are a completely different lens. Both are outstanding however.

Which ZM Biogon the f/4.5 of f/2.8? I have the f/4.5 and consider it to be the best 21 I've ever used and tested due to near zero distortion and near peak performance wide open. I'd gladly give up the speed as it's tiny size makes an easy fit in any camera bag.
I have the 2.8, I love the extra speed and find the lens to be balanced despite the larger size.
That being said my love affair with the big 75 lux shows I have no problem with large lenses.
The Zeiss is the first lens wider then 35 that I really love using.

If I had an M8 I'd go for the 21/2.8 first. But I don't, and I love the size and look of the 21/4.5
I finally got one. I will use it to shoot film, especially mounted on a Bessa T for landscapes encountered on backpack trips.

Yep.. very nice.. this was @ 2.8 on the M8, ISO640 and 1/11
Cheers

Great image, such a classic feel, and wonderful handling of the contrast range.
Best,

It's clear to me now that hanging out with beautiful women would definitely improve MY photography!
The questions are: how? who?
