For those of you breathlessly waiting to see what I do next (all two of you?) I bought some Kodak BW400CN today.
OK, now go back to what you were doing.

Not Ilford XP2?
I bought BW400 CN and XP2

I shoplifted a few rolls of whatever I could grab. Too bad it's Walgreen's C-41 color print film.

"webz" , okay I'll pay attention. Also Ilford C41 BW never works for me. I love Kodak's C41 BW.
"Valdy" (as you are known around the photographic circles) if you're shoplifting at least go for the good stuff. No sense doing time for taking the poor stuff.

I ran through two rolls of Fuji Superia 400 on my daughter's kindergarten project. This is what I bought all this expensive Voigtlander equipment for?? :-) Oh well... I can always convert the photos to B&W in Photoshop and call it art... especially the blurry ones.

What's wrong with Superia 400?

Dear Jan,
Funny. I find XP2 vastly better; Kodak gives me trouble with runaway highlights (nasty curve shape). Also the XP2 is sharper though grainier.
Cheers,
R.

@roger - agreed...xp2 has the feel of proper b&w film somehow.

Hi Roger, I wasn't talking about the capacity of the film to reproduce the image. I was talking about the characteristics of the Kodak and how I like them. I agree with your technical comments.

Hey "webzy",
You didn't say what you're going to put the film in, your new Kneb?..:D
No, it goes in my S2. Not that I have not looked at them former CCCP beauties...
"Webz",
The BW400CN has been my default BW film for a while now. I don't dis-like XP2 but nobody local sells it.
I like the Kodak just fine except that I am now gearing up to print my own and all those C-41 negs are not going to be easy to print. :(
I do have an assortment of "real" black and white film coming; after I shoot those I will get 100' (or 30m) of one of them and start rolling my own.

That was actually kind of my point, how easy it this stuff to scan, my understanding is, as easy as any C41 film.

Arvay, I'm not sure what you mean about "permissions" if you are asking about permission to post this image from the source at flickr, that is my image so it's not an issue. Is that what you are asking?

I'll just confirm my position here of liking BW400CN and continuing to fail to understand why anybody likes XP2.
Some of my best stuff on film was shot with BW400CN.
Meanwhile though, not only did my one roll of XP2 totally underwhelm me, even otherwise good photographs taken by other people on XP2 lose points because I just don't like the look. Also, having just finally looked at my first rolls of Tri-X, I refute that XP2 looks like "proper" B&W. I find Tri-X looks a lot more like 400CN.
jan unfortuantely the page you've linked to says :
"This page is private"
"Oops! You don't have permission to view this page."
And yes, i like BW400CN the most out of any C41, especially with my Zuiko lenses.

Jan,
No, it's written there that I can not look at pictures without permission. You probably made some restrictions for visitors (checked the box "private album" f.e.) :o

Okay here's a copy (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=38020) at RFF , not quite as large. Click on the image for a larger viewing copy.
BTW : I'm not sure what is up with flickr.. probably the usual goofed up stuff. Go to this (http://flickr.com/photos/jann/178717215/) page because the image is public and then click on "all sizes" finally click on the "large size" to see the full image size. Hope this helps.
