i fear dark days ahead for me...
i am actually getting weary of gear talk!
what if it were to be a complete abandonment of all interest in discussing bokeh or corner sharpness?
what if tab or focus bump lost all meaning to me?
what if grain no longer mattered or low contrast high resolution vintage lenses?
what if black or chrome suddenly disappeared from my vocabulary?
could photography itself replace the joy of putting together the perfect kit (s)
what if they made a new small fast lens and i could care less? or a classic with the perfect numbers for size, weight, speed and to top it all off, great and unique images sprang forth from it's loins and i couldn't get raise my blood pressure with it?
what if they made a lens and no one wanted to buy it??
where could i go?

Hmmm. I sense a bad case of cabin fever...
It does get tiring some days discussing bokeh, sofa, corner sharpness, etc. But if could be worse. We could be on a digital forum discussing purple fringing and measurebating the perfect amount of pixels.
Joe, there's nothing left for you, but to make photos.

YES!
... as for your other questions ... I'm not sure? :p

i hope it's just cabin fever al.
it feels like a very long winter and i have been mostly sick these past 3 or 4 weeks and have not had the energy to go out and play. there is a hugh controvery over the cv 35/1.4, i have one and have barely used it. that's NO fun at all.

Yeah. So gear does not matter.
Dump the new stuff and get a Canon P. If you're not going to care about black or chrome, new, old, sharp, etc, just take photographs with a Canon P and Canon 35/2 and be done with it.

This has been one of the rare weekends I am not out doing photography - decided to upgrade my PC instead. GO OUT AND TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS. Geez.

yes!
i think & pray that it will be a good summer of shooting and that i can take advantage of warm, sunny days.
I think it's an evolutionary process. First comes the thrill of the first photos, then the years of obsession with gear, then it comes around to the images being important again. Anyone may stop at any of these points along the way. Time for you to move on to the final step maybe?

sounds a bit funerial...
Another thought: how's your sleep? Do you snore? Do you feel crumby and irritable most of the time? I was diagnosed with sleep apnia after several years of poor sleep due to incomplete sleep cycles. I was walking around like a zombie for quite a while. I had difficulty concentrating. Now I use a positive air pressure sleeping machine and am starting to feel much better. Maybe a trip to a sleep lab is in order?
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. This is not a medical diagnosis.
Sleep disorder!!!! .... how did we get from photography and gear analysis to that?
I love this place! :p
I think it's time to step away from the internet for a while...it might be good for you.
Joe,
Drink warm fluids and take long naps.
Life will continue to be be wonderful, even without photography and camera equipment.
I am sure of this.

There would be only one thing to do -- and you know what it is.

Buy a Canon P? :)
Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Bad dog!
IF buying, trying, and selling photo gear provides some pleasure, then why not? This endeavour may not be as lofty a pursuit as making satisfying images, and it may even get in the way of creating satisfying images, but why deny a harmless pleasure?

You feel like you are being thrusted through the 21st century at warp speed. You need an Anchor. Something to hold onto as the world moves by at dizzying speeds.
You need the 1950s precision of a Canon P to get your bearings straight and give you direction in your life.

Just bought a 1935 Carl Zeiss Jena 5cm F1.5. Let's see if that Optics Module fits into a J-3 mount...
Pretty much ran out of lenses that I want that could be bought.
As I cross into my 50s, it's nice to get results that people like with equipment that's older than me. It's re-assuring. Like the smooth precision of a Leica M3, Nikon SP, or Canon P. Or a Dual 1249...
Stuck needle- you were not around when I used Subliminal Messages in my signature line.
yes!

Is it a bad sign when you read summer to be summicron ?
I´m a bit dyslectic but probably more into photography ..
But I can relate to the lack of "feeling" to gear and stuff, but it tends to end after a while, just take the e**y test and see after a while ;)
Being uninspired is a as fun as having a brought a TLR and it rains all day.

Maybe make yourself a milkshake with the ice cream.
It takes a little creativity to make and its noisy!

I too became very weary of the gear talk. I'm spending more time at production. The egos become tiresome too, although some threads (like the recent CV lens thread) can be hilarious (especially towards the end).

Well, There is one person that took my April 1 poll that is incredibly jealous that you got a fresh blanket of snow and really wants to use his P.
