Leica announced today the Full frame sensor 22 MP M9 digital range finder camera, complete with image stabilization and a 21 to 420 f2.8 zoom lens especially designed for this Camera by Panasonic.
Leica said that this will be a great step forward in photography since the new M9 is totally automatic and has no manual modes.
No longer is there a need for lenghty and boring discussion threads as to which camera or lens is better, as this camera is perfect and will have none of the problems of the M8.
The M8 will be immediately discontinued with the arrival of the M9 and can be traded in for an M9 plus $750 starting today April 1 2008.
Please contact Leica Solms when you are ready to upgrade to the M9.

Thanks for mentioning it. I just read the news. It's unbelievable.

Odd that Leica would make such an announcement on April 1 -- some people might think this was a joke.

:D
Where did you find the news? Is it real????
I was totally suckered in by their upgrade program. First I was going to get the quiet shutter. And I was just thinking of the possibilities of getting the sensor upgraded. Little did I know the new sensor upgrade also includes a new body and lens. Sweet.

Ye of little faith!
M9? Nah, this morning I got my M3 back from Wetzlar with the digital upgrade (1400 Euros).
This is the final nail in the coffin of film.
Damn. 14:20 already!?! Guess I am the fool.

Is this the clip you're referring to?

I've already ordered mine! Finally! I was apparently one of the last to take advantage of the Leica customer loyalty program. I'm particularly excited about the direct cranial implant accessory they're promising. No more fiddling around manually to set exposure. I can't wait! :D

This is just a silly April Fools Gag. Everyone knows the real announcement from Leica is the new f/01 Barrelux with optional trailer-m for easy portability. Can anyone say spinning rims on the trailer-m? A limited number of these will come mounted on refurbished WWII Panzer tanks.
I'm still waiting for the M10 I ordered exactly one year ago...

I just secured a Olive Green Bundeswehr version of the M9 complete with engraving and the crazy rare 400mm f2.0 lens.......
I have completed my prototype testing of the new M9 and I can say this without equivocation. The planned factory upgrades will really make this a fine camera. One thing I thought problematic was the fact that the M9 does not readily accept coded lenses. Most coded lenses are causing front focus shift. Therefore, in order to utilize the full frame capability of the M9 coded lenses will require factory modifications.

Leica have hired one million retired seamstresses to locate and cut every single 35mm negative in existence down to 18x27mm. Behold: the Leica M8 -- the world's first fullframe digital rangefinder.
I had to send my M9 back today. It came with Magenta Snakeskin covering and I had ordered the Autumn Treebark. I figured I could tape over the red Leica logo with a maple leaf and no one would ever see me. But how on earth does Leica ever expect me to coordinate with the Magenta Snakeskin? :bang:

How about the most important issue: Neck or Wrist strap?

Actually, I was mistaken about the lens, it is an f2 lens not an f2.8 and it is called a Zoomycron.

Bob:
Don't forget the need to kick off a thread on the perfect bag! I think LeicaTom's "crazy rare 400MM f2" cries out for the perfect bag.
