It's time to get the third book club up and running. All are welcome to join. The book that we have decided to discuss is The Genius of Photography by Gerry Badger (this is the book that accompanies the recent BBC series).

HERE (http://www.bookfinder.com/search/?ac=sl&st=sl&qi=WqnuaDusEHrvf2qvSwLUUyNQrJo_1031770800_1:7:69&bq=author%3Dgerry%2520badger%26title%3Dgenius%2520 of%2520photography) are some links where the book is available for sale.

This is a reasonably long book. So let's give ourselves at least a month to acquire and read it. We'll schedule the start of the discussion for May 1. Of course, if people need more time to read the book, we can always push the start date back by a week or two.

Ok, who's in? Let's put together a list of participants in this thread in order to facilitate communication amongst ourselves.

Again, everyone is welcome to join. We have run two book club discussions so far. The threads are archived in the Photo Books/Mags/Articles forum.

I'm not sure if I can/will participate but thanks for the book suggestion. It's 40 euro here in Holland. A bit steep. It'll gobble up my allowance. :)

Yes, this book is a bit pricey. I paid the equivalent of $40 CDN for my copy through Amazon.co.UK. That works out to about 25 Euros which, though still expensive, is not as bad as 40 Euros.

I have only leafed through this book somewhat haphazardly thus far. But it certainly looks very interesting. For what it's worth, not that I am a huge fan of his, Martin Parr recommended this book as the best photo book of 2007.

I'll see if I can get it cheaper somehow. It does sound like an interesting book. I wish I could follow the series. Maybe the BBC will release it on dvd some day.

I'm really hoping that they do. I was not able to watch the series as I don't have cable.

I will try to participate, time and work permitting. I've enjoyed the first two.

I'm in. Just purchased the book and waiting for it to ship. Here is a great link for buying books. I use it to get old books, as well as books not found at Amazon (usa) or B&N.

Just received the book today... It'll take a while for me to read as I am spending a lot of time at the University... Book looks excellent and I am excited to read it. It has some outstanding photography in it as well.

Not good. Other issues have come up in the past weeks and I doubt I'll be able to read the book any time soon. But I will keep an eye on this thread and see what others think of the book.

Hi,
The book is not yet released here in the US. Amazon still has it listed for pre-order, both on the US and CA sites.

oh cool! I'll be sure to make an order!

For those who watched the series, in the first episode there was a short segment on crime scene photos of dead bodies. I thought those photos looked amazing, despite the morbid subject. Is there a book of those photos available?

Here is a link where you can buy the book from the US.

I'm barely started, and it will take me quite some while to get through, although I am enjoying it so far.

How's the reading going? Do those who are interested in participating think they will be ready to start the discussion on May 1?

I won't be read by May 1st as my reading is going VERY slowly. May 1st signifies the end of my semester at the University, but more importantly it signifies finals (jaws music playing eerily in the background )!!!! Mid May would be fine for me.

I agree that May 1 is too soon, this will take a while to get through.

Still too soon for me. Just haven't had much time.

OK, let's push it back by a month. June 15 is now the planned start date. That will also give others who might want to participate a chance to read the book.

I'm not sure if its still up, but I watched the entire series on YouTube. Just search of Genius of Photography. Of course, the quality on the YouTube recording is crappy but the series is definitely worth watching. I hope that it comes out on DVD/Blueray too. I loved the part with William Klein. What a character.

Edit: TV Ontario also aired the series but I wasn't aware of it until after the fact. Perhaps they may air it again.
