The 2008 Street Photography Project is born out of a desire to show the world street photography as a legitimate art form. I am excited and honored that I will take part. Please keep in mind the rules while shooting, few as they are.
- Photos must be taken within the time frame of the project, April 1 - June 30.
- Photos must be taken with some form of rangefinder camera.
- Details such as equipment used and/or film/dev/processing should not be posted with the photo. This is to allow the photos to speak for themselves.
- Photos should be posted in the gallery between April 1 and July 15. This gives an extra two weeks to finish up processing and scanning if needed.
I am leaving the interpretation of the term Street Photography up to you. This is to get the widest interpretation of the genre possible. I would also love it if you would provide an explanation of what street photography means to you as a forward to your images in the gallery. This is optional, but highly recommended. It will allow people to better understand your vision.
The main objective is to get out there, shoot your rangefinders, and create some unforgettable images. This will make the project successful.
Thanks for driving this, Stephanie.
Is there someway we could post pics anonymously ?
Thanks,
Roland.

I'm going to have a discussion with the Bartender about the gallery soon. I don't think there is a way, but if it's something a lot of people are interested in I could create a gallery using some other software and host it off site. I thought of that when I had this idea.
Well done Stephanie.
I like the idea of anonymity - it's a great leveller.
Regards,
Bill
Thanks. I think it would make as much sense as leaving away equipment info.
The competition that Jorge organized a while back (winner RML) was anonymous,
I remember.
Best,
Roland.

I don't mean to quibble, but that seems to add a level of complexity, something I thought you were trying to avoid.
My vote is: Keep it simple.
There was a Magic Roll comp on here earlier in the year that had a work round for anonymity. Entries were emailed in & posted into the gallery by the competition organisers. I guess anyone seeking anonymity could perhaps seek out a similar method?
No need, just a desire to only have the picture judged and not the social network.
Roland.

Okay, we'll do this.
I'll set up an email on my hosting account (which is paid up for the year, as is the domain, so no email will bounce) for anyone to use who wants to anonymously post their photos. That should be okay with everyone.
chikne, it's a real pity that you feel that way. I personally like the stuff you shoot and it will be a pity if you feel that you are unable to contribute to this project.
There is plenty of argument over the how's and why's of this in the other threads. Lets try to keep this particular thread clear of controversy eh?
It's Stephanies idea & she can set any rules she likes, we don't have to play if we don't want to.
Well Mick,
over the past day or so there has been a million threads started about that project. So this one is probably the best one to say something since it says "final" in the title....

I am really excited about this competition. I shoot an slr mainly but have a really cheap canon rangefinder I will use for the competition. I am not put off at all by the rules of the competition. They are what give it focus and make it interesting. There are plenty of places I can post pictures I took this month with my SLR, but in April I will have a renewed interest and focus to get more in touch with my rangefinder, and more focused on what I think "street photography" is as an art form. This makes me glad that I began to frequent the "RANGEFINDERFORUM.COM"!

This is a great idea. I would like to participate if possible. I don't think the anonymous posting is necessary, but I will go along with whatever is dictated.
So anything can be posted with respect to an individual's interpretation of "street"... no curation... just discussion?
This'll be fun!

No curation, but Stephanie has asked for "justification". ie why the image means "street" to you. At least that's how I interpret it.
Cheers.
Cool! I can't wait to start shooting..
R.
Stephanie, this is a wonderful idea. Are we limited to a finite number of images, say 3, or is it one per photographer? If this was posted elsewhere, my apologies.

sooo, where do we post images, I shot a few earlier today, did we come up with a set number of images yet, anonymity, etc?

Regarding number of images, it would be nice if people limited themselves to those images that they are really MOST PROUD OF. That'll keep the gallery from getting swamped.
I'm personally happy if I end up with a dozen pictures in 1 year that I'm really happy with, so I guess I'll post 2 to 4 to the gallery by the end of June.
Ok so I have a question....
Just how many photos are we limited to submitting? I've done extensive shooting while living in France for the past eight weeks... and needless to say I have quite a few images i'd like to submit, so I was just wondering what the rules on that would be.
I can host the galleries at my website if there is still a need. I will defer to Stephanie ONLY to say YEA or NAY.
What I propose:
1) I'll create a specific ftp account that will be available only through July 15th.
2) ftp your images (.jpg extension). Naming convention of each image you submit would be mmdd-yourRFFid-NNN (where NNN is a unique numeric identifier).
3) If you want some identifier or copyright notice, embed a watermark on your images. I will remove my site-wide copyright notice.
4) I will post the images within 24-48 hours (I have a day job).
5) I will call the new gallery: RFF 2008 Street Photography Project. Within that, I will create sub-galleries by week of submission, based on the 'mmdd' identifier of your images' name. I will remove my site-wide copyright notice.
6) CAVEAT - I am unavailable from May 24th through June 15th. I can post images between now and May 24th; otherwise, they will have to wait until after June 15th.
7) CAVEAT - posting comments with each image is a little more work that I'm willing to do, so all image-specific comments will have to be posted here at RFF.
8) CAVEAT - The site is flash-based, so you will NOT be able to link to individual images.
9) CAVEAT - no PM's regarding specific requests to make changes or delete images. I will post whatever image you send.
Again - I will wait to hear from Stephanie. If you want to check out the look and feel in the meantime, visit my website.
Let me know.
Ah, missed that... thanks.
