View Full Version : Sky Captain and the world of tomorrow..
Saw the movie 'Sky Captain and the world of tomorrow' on the telly last night. It was a bit cheesy, but there was nothing better to watch (go figure). But what do you guess? There comes intrepid newspaper reporter Polly Perkins, and she carries a camera that made me think, 'hey that's an Argus'.. Anyone else notice?

I worked part time at a movie theatre when that movie came out.
I happen to have a 6' cardboard Polly Perkins in my study.
Lucky me.

yes, except she's got a special hollywood model that has a built in flash and giant top mounted frame counter (that counts backwards, no less) in place of the cold shoe :p

Yeah and the flash is a very bright one like a commercial Prophoto strobe head.
I'm sorry... Gwynneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie in one movie and you are wittering on about an Argus...?
*shakes head*

Was I the only one who noticed this is the ultra-rare and collectible left handed Argus C3 especially built for some unknown reason, but sought by Argus collectors everywhere? ;) Check the link to the movie poster in pvdhaar's post above.

Technicalities of GP's Franken-Argus prop aside, it was a fun and stylish movie. And the bit with the lens cap at the end - :D.

Was this Argus known prior to Sky Captain? It solves the face obscuring trait of standard configuration cameras. We see more of Gwynneth.

FPJ,
Yes, I am pretty sure this is the famous Gwynneth-non-face-obscuring model C3. AKA the Argus GNFO. And those Leica guys thought they had all the fun with obscure variations.
Steve
Well, Leica also produced an Argus look alike digital camera!:)

And the obvious punch line at the end that one could see coming for at least the last hour of the film...
