I've just recently decided to buy a camera so I can start taking pictures of my dog.
I bought a Leica M8 Chrome with a 6 Bit Leica 50mm f1 Noctilux M lens but i don't know how to use them!!:bang:
I want to take pictures of my dog but if I can't use my M8 and my new lense then i can't take pictures of him.
Can anyone help?

Take the lenscap off.....

Wow, that must have been one helluva salesman!
Well, anyway: Turn the camera to "s" and "A", set the dial on the lens to erm, let's say "5.6". Now the tricky bit: look through the little window and turn the other ring on the lens until you get the 2 pictures of you dog to match. Press the silver button. Downhill all the way after that.
BTW you are in posession of the worlds best camera and lens. Congratulations.
this must be a joke. if not, the $10,000 joke is on suzy.

Thank you for your help so far.
It was my grandmother who bought me this camera when I got good grades at school. And then my Dad bought me the lens. I've taken some pictures with it and I might post them up soon although if some user's keep on insulting me, i might not do so
Thanks for your help so far :p

Maybe it is Boris Becker?? The tennis player? In Germany they call him Boris Boom Boom for his famous serve.
Sorry Suzy, but your try was just too obvious to be taken seriously:-)
Finally!
Here he is! (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Golden-Bear-Boris-The-Dog/dp/B0002T1TQS)
Suzy,
I think your parents bought you a bad camera. Since I'm so nice, I'll trade it for a better camera: a Canon Powershot. It has autofocus and everything! All you have to do is push the button and the camera makes perfect pictures! You don't even have to know anything about photography. It does it all for you. PM me if you're interested. : )

Don't listen to this guy. I'll trade you a Nikon, which we all know is better than Canon.....

Suzy, you should know that a message like this one of Rick's is termed 'grooming'. In reality, Rick only wants you for your body (although I suspect he'd like it fitted with the lens too). If I were you I'd swap that silly camera for something useful for Boris. I'll trade you all my dog's pooper snooper bags and I'll even throw in her nit comb and rubber chicken. Deal?

Don't we call him that because he did it in a broom closet  ??

...Aww, c'mon Sooz! It's not that we don't buy your story, it just that we are, like, really, really jealous! Plus we've heard that the 6 bit Leica 50mm f1 Noctilux M lens doesn't take a very sharp picture with an M8 Leica digital camera. But hey! If Elliot E. can take doggie pics with a Leica, why not you?
Let's see!
ps, don't be put off by our gruff exterior. We are really nice and we want to believe in the existance of a Newbie Girl Shooter.
That's really funny. Wish I had thought of it. Maybe on another forum...

Dear Suzy...
It depends what kind of dog it is. Please advise.

Maybe she's real? Who knows, but it is a bit of a leap of faith.
Perhaps the dog picture will be proof of the pudding.
All,
Tell her to leave me alone. I don't want my picture taken. Tell her to take up street shooting or maybe portraits...just leave me alone.

Well that's nice to hear. I've taken quite a few pictures of Boris and they're not too bad I think. I'll put them up when I actually learn how to.
Get yourself some (free)account from one of the famous photo sites (pbase, flickr, ...) and just upload. Short question, is this your first camera ? What made you decide to get an M8 + Noctilux ?

Baut Maddoc, didn't you read her previous answers? Her Grandma gave her that camera and I think her dad gave her the lens - such a sweet family!
It was my grandmother who bought me this camera when I got good grades at school. And then my Dad bought me the lens.
$11,500 of cameras for getting good grades? Times sure have changed. All I got from my folks for getting good grades was the absence of punishment. Good grades were an expectation.
And i just bought this Ferrari, and I wonder what the three pedals are for...
No problem... Two make it go, One makes it stop, and the big round wheel just above your lap makes it go where you want it to go. The one big round dial on the dash should always be between 4000 and 7000, through the judicious use of one of the pedals and the stick poking up through the floor to the right of the drivers position.
As far as the camera inquiry.... you should have bought a Ferrari. Oh, and I know that all the Leicaphyles will suggest that you did.

Jon:
The three pedals perform the following functions: Stop, Go, and Reverse. Just like the Ford Model T!

Suzy,
If you really are for real and want to learn to use this camera, I suggest that you put that beautiful Noctilux away for a while and ask your Dad to purchase a CV 28, 35 or 50mm lens for you. The Noctilux is a specialized lens and would not be an easy lens to learn with. Put a CV lens on that M8 (cameraquest.com) and just shoot, shoot, shoot.
OK, Suzy, if you want to be taken seriously, tell us how we can help you and post some sample pics. It is hard for us to visualize a student being handed an M8 and a Noctilux, but there are lots of people on here who would help you if you asked a serious question.

Are you for real?
You never know about things like this, kids get brand new cars just because they graduated from high school in some places.
Bob
I find Suzies' story curious, but not out of the realm of possibility, but then I live in an area of the USA where parents buy Subaru STIs for their 16 yr olds. At least she can't kill herself or anyone else with an M8/Noct combo, well not unless she hits some one in the head with it... I also feel this way, because I know adults who do the same thing, I once had a rich patient who went out and bought a whole new Hasselblad kit without any previous experience because he liked some to the prints I had in my office, and I told him I used a 25 yr old 500CM. That was after an entire Leica M6 kit that he estimated at close to $20K back in the early '90s. So in a word I believe it is possible......

If she said her parents gave her a new Honda Civic nobody would be surprised. Yet a new Civic costs more than a Nocti and an M8.
Do you people want to drive around all day, or follow your dreams?

If I did that, I'd have two bodies and no lenses. Sigh... Back to the pin hole.

 WELL SUZY i AM QUITE HAPPY to Go there Replace your "faulty Leica m8 + 50/1.0 lens" to my super modern compact compact "AutoFocus" digital camera which is far more sophisticated than your non working M8!!! I am in Australia, but happy to fly over there this weekend and do the swap. Please let me know if you are interested.
Thanks
Still in doubts who of two is a dog...Boris or Suzy
M8 is a real "dog camera"
Fast autofocus, great zooms to catch moments of dog's activity. Don't even think to trade it the guys here for a manual weird Nikon or Canon.
I have never seen any dog being pictured with this crap...
I'm a little jealos, Boris. You met a Suzy of my dreams before I came across such a treasure...
I forgot to say that if the dog is bad in photos - change the dog first.

Because a Honda Civic isn't exactly, well, the Noctilux of the car world.
The M8 is a great camera for dog shots!

Yeah, but I need my justifications!
"I paid more in interest on my mortgage last year."
"My car is paid off, so.."
"I'll just eat only ramen noodles this year to make up for it."
Don't take away my excuses!
