After only 56 years, the plastic eyepiece on my IIIf disintegrated (so much for Leica quality). I bought a new piece from nobbysparrow that fits perfectly and looks exactly like the original part. The part is available from Micro Tools, but they don't exactly make ordering and paying easy.

the IIIc had a more durable eyepiece that will last beyond 58 years.

I gave up on ordering and paying for something from MicroTools -- a book -- what a joke that place is. You might check with Don at DAG camera. He has tons of vintage parts, is reasonably priced, and he knows his stuff.

But it's metal and would scratch my glasses!

It is just a minor inconvenience.

I bought a can of "Liquid Electrical Tape" at Home Depot. It is a rubber/plastic in liquid form. It comes in various colors, but I bought black. Working carefully, I applied some to the metal eyepiece of my M2 and M3. The result: no more scratch glasses! I imagine it can work the same on the IIIc eyepiece (though I haven't done it to either of my IIIcs yet).

I did the same on my IIIc and it is a gloppy liquid and one should practice applying it before doing the eye piece.

How long would you like plastic to last?

Forever. More or less. :D
I'm not yet 58 and the lenses in my eyes had to be replaced. So much for Indian quality.
DAG sells the plastic eyepieces and there's no problem dealing with Don
