a little secret...sometimes i bid (ebay) on stuff i don't really want.
i bid a little at a time and hope i stay under the top bidder.
sometimes i bid and and become the current high bidder and hope like hell that someone outbids me, real quick.
and tonite, i lost at my stooopid little game and won a 28/3.5 serenar lens, from australia!
i don't even shoot 28...
will i never learn?

I do that with Canon 7s and Ps. One of these days I'm gonna end up winning a body I can't really afford with only a I-61L/D to put on it... :bang:
So, yes, I understand all too well.

shipping is about the same as sherry k charged to ship the 100 to me, so not as bad as i thought.
probably very slow though.

Sounds more like Serenar roulette! Those little 28's are pretty good. I had one until a few years ago. Let me know if you're thinking of trading.

I will let you know when I sell things on ebay so you can inflate the prices! Stay away from the auctions I am bidding on though! I am trying to get a deal over here!

Joe,
So, you are saying that you bid on things that you really don't want? That is just sick, you need help!!
I don't suppose I could interest you in a set of 6 enlarging lenses in a nice tackle box could I? I already have 5 enlarging lenses and I can't figure out how to use more than one at a time.

Joe,
I have not bought from that seller, but have corresponded with him. Seems very nice and professional. Give the 28 a try, if you don't like it put it up for sell/trade here. At that price, you will not lose anything.

Joe,
Yes, I do as a matter of fact have a tackle box. I have no idea why I bid on it, I think it was because there were these 6 lens in it that were mounted in threaded brass base holder and no one was bidding on them, so I said to myself, "Self, bid a tiny bit on them to help get this poor guys auction going." So, 4 days later it proved that my bid was the "Kiss of Death" as no one else bid. I have to go now, I need to check on how my bid for an 6 1/2"x8" sheet film view camera is going. I also need to see what flavours of 6 1/2"x8" film our local Wal-Mart carries.

I know how you feel Joe, I do the same thing with MF stuff...so far so good, I've been outbid on everything.
Yup... bid $51US for a 90/4 Elmar LTM last night. Guess what.

i have had 28's in the past and in truth i can't figure out how to use them properly.
i like w/a/ pics - just can't seem to take them.
maybe having to use the external vf will help.
i guess that price isn't so bad when i think about it coming with the 28 vf also.
plus, aussie dollars are worth less than canadian dollars, that helps...

I do it all this all the time. Try to guess the reserve and bid a penny below it. I had a couple sellers figured out and bumped up a few of their auctions. For those, my thought was that the guy who had the highest bid would never win the item unless someone bid against him to raise the price to the reserve. I was doing the seller and buyer a service. :)
I guess I acquired fifty percent of my stuf that way... Surely somebody is going to bid more than 10 Euros for that Konica S2? Naaahh... Anybody, more than 1 Euro for that C35? Nope... That Magnifax 6x9cm enlarger with color head is not going to go for 100 Euros! Ooops...

I love looking at who is bidding on items too. It has been funny to see so many familiar names from here bidding on all the Canon RF stuff. That Canon 50/1.5 lens from yesterday had at least 3 RFFers bidding on it. I felt bad this week because I saw in on my watch list that a hood I wanted was ending shortly. I threw in a bid without noticing who was the high bidder. I didn't win, but when I went back and looked I had bumped one of us. I wasn't that interested in this hood to have done that so I felt bad.
I'll be picking up my un-intended 90/4 Elmar this weekend.

really? for how much again?
i know i should be happy for you but right now i just want to be nasty...
joe;)
I bid US$51- for it last night, about 10 min's before the close, there was only one bid before me, and the seller has 100% feedback. I thought that someone for sure would outbid me, but there were no other bids.
Funny thing was, I was reading this thread when I made my bid :)

damn!
i get lucky sometimes but usually for the cheaper, lesser items.
of course i did use a 'buy it now' once for a $59 lens - i think maybe the 135...
ah hell, congrats!!
joe
Heh. I do this too, but I have been lucky so far. When someone bids more than I am willing to pay for something I like, I inch his bid up as much as I dare so he ends up paying as much as possible.

geez ray.
i don't do it to get people to pay more. it's a silly game i play with myself.
usually the bid is up fast showing that the other guy has had a higher bid in already.
but yesterday i got caught cause he didn't have a bid as high as i thought he might.
never the less, the check is in the mail and i will soon have a 28/3.5 lens on the p.
