Continuing my "other" threads.... :D

I am aware of folks using Voigtlander body (Bessa-L?) cases on their Leica's as low cost alternatives.

Anyone aware of similar alternatives to the Contax $50 bottom half? Just interested in the bottom half, G1/G2 body protection.

Hi Bill,
I'm not sure if this will be of any help -- may not be what you are looking for, but I'm cosidering trying an OP/Tech rangefinder case. I use a lot of their other products and have been very pleased with them (lens cases, straps, etc.). Perhaps someone on the list has tried their rangefinder case?

The Nikon CF-17 case fits a G1 with 45mm lens perfectly, whether you use the whole case or just the bottom half. I got a used one for C$10. Although I don't know what Nikon camera was it originally designed for.

Tin,

Is your CF-17 well worn (re: soft)? I went through my "pile" at home, and wouldn't you know I already have a CF-17 (this is for the Nikon FG, btw).

I tried putting my G1 in it, and it's close, but not what I would call "perfect".

Should I hold the case over some steam for a few minutes first? :D

It's a wll used case. Perhaps I shouldn't have use the word "perfect". I really meant "as perfect as one can expect from a case made by another brand."

Further to my previous post. I didn't realized that the G1 and G2 have slightly different dimensions. The G2 is indeed slightly larger than the G1 (139W X 80 X 45 mm for the G2 vs. 133 X 77 X 42mm for the G1). That probably would have explained the difference in fit.

If you want a case that is REALLY nice, though pricey, check out the case from Kameraleder in Los Angeles. This fellow does beautiful work.

If you would like to go the inexpensive route I know people who use the Zing cases and like them a great deal.

There is something fundamentally wrong with paying more for the case than what you paid for the camera. :D

But thanks... I've actually had some luck over the past few weeks finding some used Contax G half cases....

The Kameraleder cases are truly works of great craftsmanship and are highly fondleable...PLUS...they smell great, too! Nothing like a big snort of leather aroma to invigorate your artistic side. :D

I own a used Kameraleder case for my Konica Hexar AF, won on e-Bay. It took more than a year of watching to even spot one, bidding was "spirited" to say the least and I ended up winning at ~1/2 retail. My Hexar hasn't drawn attention in public, but the case has. :p
