The Associated Press seeks an Entertainment Photographer for its Los Angeles bureau.
This Photographer proactively covers entertainment stories in Los Angeles with emphasis on exclusivity and securing the best imagery, both still and video. This Photographer writes and edits photo captions and/or broadcast shot lists. This person works closely with entertainment planning editors and entertainment content leaders, in addition to AP news and entertainment staff, to ensure superior coverage of daily entertainment news and scheduled events. This person provides cross-functional assistance to AP reporters and video journalists. This person also balances the content needs of AP entertainment, AP news and AP images. This photographer continually develops and maintains a network of entertainment industry insiders and publicists. This person covers national and international assignments as required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have superior news and entertainment judgment. The candidate should have well-established relationships within the entertainment arena. Applicants must have the photographic skills to cover a wide variety of events, plus demonstrated initiative and wherewithal to generate strong photos beyond scheduled assignments. Required skills include a sharp sense of photo composition, the ability to compose as events unfold and tell a story visually. Applicants must be able to process and edit digital photographic images and transmit using appropriate technology. An applicant must have a core expertise in photography with some background in video and a willingness to learn skills in other media as necessary. A candidate must be aware of multimedia production processes and have the ability to learn new ways of content creation and publication. Applicants must be self-motivated and well-organized, with the flexibility to juggle priorities. Candidates must have communication and interpersonal skills to deal constructively with fellow AP staffers and freelancers. Applicants must be able to meet tight deadlines and react quickly to breaking news. Candidates must be able to work all shifts, including overnights, and all days of the week, including weekends. Applicants must have an in-depth understanding of the various entertainment market needs: newspapers, magazines/periodicals, book publishers, broadcasters and Internet/wireless.
