I'm looking at a lot of different 50mm options for my M8. Included in the mix is the 50 hex. I'm trying to figure out its minimum focusing distance.

Here is a shot with the Hexanon 50/2 at minimum distance of 0.7m:

Terrific lens and for what they go for ... incredible value! I suspect they may go up in value as time goes by and the build quality should keep them keeping on!

I found it to be equal to the Summicron.

The 50 Hex is a great lens, but there's been at least one report of focus problems when used on the M8. See here:

If it works on Leica film bodies, Zeiss Ikon, Bessas, etc - It's M8 to blame - not Hexanon lens!. However, I have seen many posts that Hexanon works just fine with M8 and RD1. So it may be THAT Particular M8 and/or Lens.

'if it works on Leica film bodies'

What if it doesn't 'work' on Leica film bodies but the resolution of film is not adequate to reveal the flaw?

I think film resolution is just fine to check if lens focuses correctly. Plus as I said, there are posts out there that Hex works just fine on digital cameras - M8 and Rd1. But, if you are uncomfortable with getting Hex - there is always Summicron. ;)

I got rid of my Summicron. It was the only lens that I regretted buying so far.

I've used the 50/2 M-Hexanon on a Hexar RF, a Leica M4, and a Bessa-T. Focus is spot on on all three of them..
