I'm always drawn to the CSMonitor for their great images and storytelling -- our local paper is cluttered with boring run of the mill images, bad crops, and blah images ---
I like some of the european news that I get online -- the independent,

sometimes I browse the online stars and strips -- every now and then there are some compelling images --- usually see compelling images there

most news sources seem consumed with mediocrity...

who do you like?

The Guardian and, oddly, the Financial Times usually have some good stuff here in the UK

I see that The Independent and The Guardian have already been grabbed.

I used to enjoy the photography in - of all things - Computing. The paper version that is. Used to be lots of B&W wide angle stuff, and quirky portraits. I guess it's not easy making IT professionals and the boxes they look after interesting. I don't see it any more but I've just looked at their web-site and it's nothing special at all.

If the NY Times keeps laying people off , there will not be anyone to shoot those month long photo assignments. I too have always liked the Christian Science Monitor , and their great photo pages. You can still find great photography from most news services, but it's spotty. Reuters covers someplaces in the world better than anyone, and even the AP can have a good day. Money is the bottom line , and its expensive to send photographers on assignments anywhere in the world.

New York Times Magazine. Excellent photo editors who have the liberty and knowledge to choose wonderful photographers. Even the daily paper often has some nice images -- dunno what's available online though.

Magnum online has nice features, also through Slate.

I get the "Financial Times" here in California and they do have some nice shots in it...but the paper they're printing it on is crappy...
