View Full Version : Summar barrel screws

I recently acquired a 5cm Summar that is missing one of the three screws on the lens barrel. The two remaining screws are tight and OK, but the heads look pretty chewed.

Does anyone have a parts Summar from which they would be willing to give up at least one of the lens barrel screws. If I could get a complete set of three, so much the better, but that may be asking too much.

I have no idea what these itty bitty things are worth, but I am willing to pay and/or trade film or whatever I may have that would be of interest.

TIA

If noone here has a parts lens, you might try DAG for such things. He tries to keep most things Leica available as parts, and has a large list available on his website. I haven't checked, but he may well have the screws you need listed and priced. They will probably sound expensive, but they also aren't easy to find or duplicate.

It's a lovely little lens, and hopefully hasn't been butchered by someone who didn't know what they were doing, and used the wrong tools to do it.

Harry,

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll leave my query out there, but I sent Don an e-mail. Yeah, I bet he's got the parts!

Don is a great guy. If he does not have the screws, try Sherry Krauter at Golden Touch.

Sherry cleaned a Summar for me and the glass looks beautiful now.

Her email is krauter@warwick.net

I have a similar screw that fits the Summitar barrel-it locks the rear lens group into the barrel. It's a tiny grub screw. I only have one, but it's yours free. PM your address.

Victor,

Thanks for the offer. I e-mailed Don and he had a set of screws for the barrel and the little grub screw for the front element. $15 for the set, which seems more than fair.

Yes, Don is a great guy and Sherry does great work too, no doubt about it. We're lucky to have them.
