I almost wish I hadn't done this but I was sitting at my desk messing around with my M8 with a pile of lenses in front of me. I was curious to see how many of the lenses will take the two complementary IR filters that I chose when I bought the camera.

For the hell of it I mounted each lens on the camera ... laid the obigatory ruler out in front at around one meter or so focusing distance and proceeded to amaze myself.

35mm f1.2 Nokton ... front focuses by about 3cm at f1.2

28mm f1.9 Ultron ... front focuses by about 3cm at f1.9

50mm f1.5 Nokton ... not too bad, only about 1.5cm at f1.5

50mm f2 Hexanon ... front focuses by about 1cm at f2

35mm f2 Hexanon ... no apparent front focus at f2

50mm f1.2 Canon ... no apparent front focus at f1.2 but very doughy image!

Ok ... lets try a Leica lens:

50mm f2.8 Elmar Collapsable ... no front focus at all at f2.8 and very sharp image ... Hmmm!

I've put everything back in the cupboard now and have come to the conclusion that this was information that I didn't really need to know! :p

Nice try - I happened to have the 35 Summicron asph on and copied you:
Spot-on and sharp at 2.0

I wish I had more Leica lenses that I could try this with ... the only other decent Leica glass I have is my DR50mm and it won't fit the M8. :(

It was interesting that the 35mm Hex was fine ... that pleased me because I really like that lens! :)
