As with all gold plated cameras: yuck.

Be fair. It's almost certainly as authentic as any other gold-plated IIIg.
Cheers,
R.
at least it's a real iiig under all that glitz ----
It's for collector market. I won't even bother to search for cameras like IIIg....
Why are there four windows on the front?

No collector would want that, who knows what this is about. Just nuts if you ask me.

The IIIg has parallax corrected framelines which are illuminated rather than reflected. The smallish rectangular window is used to illuminate the frame lines.

um, I am not sure but I think this is a fake body, the engraving on the knobs is off and so is the text on the lens. and yeah that is one ugly mutha farker.
It'll likely go to China where they love to show off their new-found wealth in outrageous ways.
I wouldn't buy this.
But I don't see why buying a golden IIIg and using it is any different from insisting that only chrome lenses should be used on a chrome body ...
A clean IIIg costs around US 1k. So the margin is not so different when compared to say, an a'la carte MP. Or paying 2.4 k for a chrome 35/2 v4 vs a black one for 1.2 k. Etc.
Whoever bought this is probably happy. Good for him.

Just as I won't mock all of you who own bright red alligator skin leatherette, or repainted black Leica bodies, I won't cut down the buyer of this gold-plated IIIg. No difference.
Hey, whatever floats your boat! ;)
Actually, ok I admit it. If I could afford it, I wouldn't mind having a Shintaro repainted black M2!
rt
Framelines? Nuts. Now the IIIg is much more interesting--not one like this one but something well used and showing the character of its age.
It does still have the seperate RF/VF windows, though. And I don't like those very much at least as implemented by Argus in the C-3. These wouldn't be any better to use, I'm sure...
Oh well, I had to ask. Thanks Andrew!

But my regally dignified IIIg still wears a tuxedo.
Regards!

Yuk.
In Australia we have a saying ........ "As flash as a rat with a gold tooth." Usually applied to "sharp dealing" used car merchants and similar -you know the type; all draped in showy gold jewellery and diamond wrist watches (or perhaps these days its Zegna suits) and transparently as untrustworthy as a rat. But that same expression comes to mind when I see something like this. Perhaps it would make the perfect present for one of these rats.

Nah, it really does look nice, Steve. But those gold plated ones are too bling bling for my taste.
