Does anyone have a recommendation on where I might send and old IIIF for CLA? Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Rem
Several possible places, but Youxin Ye -- wye7@yahoo.com -- charges rather less for work as good.
Where are you located? Youxin is in Massachusetts in the US although he services older Leica's from just about anywhere. He CLA'd a IIIC for me and threw in a lot of free advice too. Wonderful guy, inexpensive and quick turnaround. And the camera was like new. :)
Another vote for Youxin, if you are located in the US.

Here is a link the the Leica Historical Society of America independent repair services which their members have had good service from. (http://www.lhsa.org/repair.html)
I use Sherry Krauter of Golden Touch. (http://www.sherrykrauter.com/)

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I will check out your leads. I don't know what got me thinking that my camera was a IIIF. It is not; it's a IIIC. Does Youxin have a web site, or must you simply contact him via email?
Cheers,
Rem
No web site for Youxin that I know of. Send him an email; he is usually very quick to respond. He did a CLA on my IIIf RD a couple of months ago, and the whole experience was outstanding. Can't recommend him highly enough.

My vote goes to Sherry too, although she might be too busy with
M-Series cameras to do a screwmount. Youxin's a nice guy but I've
never trusted him completely. He seemed just a little too anxious to
get my camera a couple of years ago, wanting a mere $50 for a CLA.
You do get what you pay for.

i don't know if i would agree with your assessment of youxin. i sent him a camera that he was anxious to work on and got it back very quickly. he was very nice and we had excellent communication.
i had an issue with his work though. when i got the camera back, it was filthy, covered with greasy fingerprints, and the rangefinder was still off. when i emailed him about it, he said to not pay him for the work. that's fine but i was still out whatever i paid for shipping, and i was definitely not happy about having to send the camera somewhere else.
that being said, considering his good reputation, i would never think of him stealing a camera or something.
just my .02
ps--for what it's worth, i'm the only person i know of who had a less than good experience with youxin.
John Maddox in South Carolina has done perfect work on both my IIIc bodies. On one of them, he even replaced the shutter curtain, and it is perfect, and the price is right.

John Maddox is great and a real expert but last week he quoted me a CLA price more than double Mr Ye's plus needing 18 weeks compared to two.

DAG Camera did a WONDERFUL job on my IIIf including replacing the rangefinder yellow thingy and both curtains. He does good work - google it.
