i would not have thought to try this on my own but i was asked to take a look to see if the zi grip might fit the cle...and it does!!
it's not a perfect fit, and the rewind release opening would need to be shaved a bit as it partly covers the button but it works!!!!!!!!
i think i may just order one for the cle tonight!

That non original hood looks good on the 40mm Rokkor as well. Does it intrude on the Viewfinder/Rangefinder much?
Looks good, Joe! I'm fortunate to have the original CLE sidegrip for mine. Interesting that the more-obtainable Z-I item is that close a fit.
Hej,
do you guys think that would work on the CL? Do the two cameras share the tripod mount position?

no intrusion on the 40mm framelines joel.
i have the original rubber hood also but i much prefer a metal hood, better for some added protection.

Looks difficult to rewind with the grip on, no ?

haven't tried yet but i think it's doable, maybe not the most comfortable.
but i like to use a grip on my cameras so this would be worth any smaller sacrifice.

Alot of people seem to shy away from rubber hoods. The Rokkor hoods however are very good, they seem to last longer without perishing compared with the Summicron C hoods. The rubber seems alot thicker and stay extended more readily. The original lens caps also clip into them nicely.
I have numerous CLE's and am a big fan but never did buy the grip. I just think it makes them too large and an awkward shape so I prefer to go down the Luigi Case for that extra feel and grip.

nothing against the rubber hood itself, mine is in very nice shape, but i feel more secure against bumps with the metal hood.
joel, the cle with grip feels great. i like having my 3 fingers wrapped around the grip, just seems nicely balanced.

Was that vented hood very expensive? what's strange about it is that the hood for the CLE 28mm Rokkor is a metal vented hood and the looks similar to the non original one you purchased. I wonder why they mixed and matched they way they did, one lens with a metal vented hood and the others with collapsible rubber ones. Its a nicer looking hood than the original for the 40mm without doubt.

cheap, i think 10 bucks from 'american eagle' on ebay.
i remember the metal hood for the 28, it was strange they had 2 rubber and one metal hood for their lenses.
maybe they couldn't shape the rubber they way they wanted for the wide angle?
joe
p.s. the hood would fit closer to the lens but i have a thick filter on the lens.

the used zeiss grip for the cle arrived today!!
it fits so nice and makes the camera feel even more secure in my hand, while still feeling nice & small.
i just need to drill a small bit away so the film release button can be easily accessed without need for a pencil tip.
gotta love a good grip.

Hello Back Alley, could you tell me if this grip fit on the back of the camera, too ?
Thanks.

not sure what you mean by 'fit on the back'.
it does not interfere with the camera back opening and closing.

I'm sorry : my english is not good enough to describe... :(
I was asking if the grip was just as large as the camera body, or larger. I hope you'll understand what I mean...
Thanks.

it was a perfect fit...on the camera and in my hand. it seemed made for the cle size body.
actually, it was better on the cle than on a zeiss ikon body.
I might have to try that grip...it actually looks better than the original CLE edition. I've never done grips, but we'll see. Also your vented metal hood looks great on the 40. Does it allow the original lens cover to fit inside it? I thought you were a strictly digital guy (rd-1's listed and previous comments re: film/digital) but you're doing film right with the CLE! Thanks for sharing your findings.

this is an old thread. my cle is gone now.
i never use lens caps, i store them in a pencil case in case i sell the lens.
i now use digital but used film for over 30 years. my comments are usually a reaction to perceived attitudes about digital.

Looks like it's $99 two years later.
Question: Have you thought about breaking out a dremel and opening up the opneing so you can reach the rewind button?
I happily use a leicagoodies.com sling on mine. You'll never lose/drop the camera w/ it.

twit - camera is long gone
bill, the sling made me feel somewhat claustrophobic (if that makes any sense)

If your fingers can make you feel claustrophobic, you must be on the verge of hysteria in an elevator! haha

Aye, but while you had the camera and grip, were you ever tempted?

So I made the plunge

I don't know why, but I expected it to be made from aluminum (honestly I don't know why). I want get the dremel out, but I'm not sure of the thickness of the plastic

Is it really all in plastic ?!! I thought it was aluminium too...
I have been using that grip since it was first mentioned on this site. It is plastic except a thin alum. plate right under the felt. I found that I had to use the Dremel tool into the alum. to get a space big enough to get my fat fingers through the hole to the buttons. I like it as the grip makes it easier for me to hold.

Guys does any one know if this grip will fit the CL ,where is the screw in the CLE do you know if it is in the same place like the Leica ?

It won't fit the CL as the mounting point on a CL isn't in the right place. You can't even modify it to fit since that mounting point is center on the CL while it's on the left hand side of a CLE
