Today I became the proud owner of a brand new Leica UV filter for my chrome 35mm Summicron.

To-date I have been using it 'naked' behind the dedicated lens hood.

I took the hood off, screwed on the new filter and then tried to return the hood to its previous position.:bang:

Am I missing something or is there no way to have both the filter and hood in place at the same time?

I like the idea of the hood which, it must be admitted provides some protection, but I just don't like the idea of no filter for protection of the front element and I have read in several threads the Summi's trait of handling flare poorly compared with the likes of the Biogon.

All comments most welcome!

Peter - I am lucky enough to have 2 35 Summicrons (V 1 and preAsph) - and I've just checked them with filters (I donlt usually use them) and 3 hoods - the square one with the preAsp and the round IROOA and 12585 - both work fine with attached filter.
What Hood are you using?

My lens is the asph version which comes with a bayonet mounted rectangular hood. The depth of the filter seems to prevent the bayonet lugs click home. I'm not sure if the same mechanism was used with the pre-asph lenses.

I have the v4 with leica filter and hood. It works flawlessly. Did you clip the hood into the right position?

Guys

Perverse as it may seem, it gives me great pleasure in confirming that the great handless wonder of London has finally figured out how to get the hood body past the filter - really tight squeeze but it engaged perfectly.

Thanks for humouring me!! :o
