Pricewise sounds excellent... And I'm sure that like most of the CV products, it'll have a limited run (a couple of years...).
I checked its looks in the CV website, and seems to be very flat. Reminds me of the previous Summilux design, the pre-Aspherical one.
Thanks for posting the specifications! :)
If they asked $1000 for it I bet it would sell better.
Do they say how many aperture blades the lens has?

Indeed! The rangefinder market is such.
Do they say how many aperture blades the lens has?Ten aperture blades, same as the 40 Nokton.
All I gotta say is that so long as the bokeh isnt as harsh when you have bright highlights wide open as can be seen in the 40mm nokton I'm all over this lens.
The NOKTON classic 35mm and 40mm F1.4 have a very similar lenses formula, but the configuration of the 35mm has 8 elements with 6 groups and the 40mm has 7 elements with 6 groups, that difference makes the 35mm 25g more heavy.
Both of them have 10 aperture blades, use the same hood and the filter size is the same.
Inclusively the outside look and the feel are very similar.

Plenty of time to get saving then :)
I'm hoping for better bokeh rendition than the 40mm Nokton wide open (although that lens gets really nice from f2). I'll wait 'til I see some shots from the 35 before I pull the trigger, but they'd need to be pretty nasty to stop me from dropping 399€ on one.

About a month ago and before the news broke, I got myself a 35 Ultron. Perhaps this was a mistake. If I had waited, I might have picked one up alot cheaper from the glut that will appear on the market once the Nokton hits the streets. ;)
As it is I don't think I will join the rush inless I see a large improvement in performance with the new lens. If I needed the extra 1/2 stop, I would probably go for the 1.2 but that's just me.

I will wait for some shots to come out, especially concerning the out of focus, I am hoping it will be as smooth as a yashinon lens :D wishful thinking on my part. Highly interested though, the extra speed and compact size are enough for me to second guess my future summicron asph purchase
I might sound naïv on this one, but do you guys think this new lens will shade over the market (2nd hand incl.) of the 40 f1.4? (overlapping?)
Yes, Voigtlander should charge at least $1,000 for this lens. That way, any uncorrected aberrations can be called "character" and/or "glow."

i think that people with 40mm framelines in cameras will continue to buy 40mm and those with 35 framelines will buy new one.

That's one way to see it. But I don't think you are right. Being sarcastic or trying to be logical won't change the reality:
The 35 f1.2. That's another thing Leica can't do. I remember reading Mr. K saying he wanted to produce this lens because other manufacturers can't afford to do it.
And what about the most excellent Nokton 50 1.5? It beats any Nikkor 50 I've tried (and I've tested them against this lens). And this lens has TWO aspherical surfaces and one SD element! That's a thing not even Leica is doing.
... And more...
And I'm sure you know as we all do that if those lenses had a Zeiss logo on them they'd jump 3 times in price. That is called "exclusivity".

Beats the Nikkors how ? Like it beats the Noctilux ?
You talking about LTM Nikkors or SLR Nikkors ? How about the new
50/1.4 Olympic ?
If they asked $1000 for it I bet it would sell better.
Don't do it Mike ... You know we both "need" one :)

Away! Away from me!

I suppose at some point I'll "need" one of these, but the 35 Ultron is really a fine lens.

I dont think you made a mistake. In fact I think the price of the Ultron will stabilize and start to increase a bit when people realize this was the last of the modern fast screw mount 35's and can use them with both LTM and M's. The lens I expect to see being sold off will be the 40mm Noktons when people decide they can have a 35mm to match their 35mm framelines.
I want to correct my spectations about the price. I found a place in Japan where you can reserve the Nokton classic 35mm f1.4, the price is marked at 78,750 yens. I'm not sure if the price will come down after some week of its release. :bang:

Mainlinephoto the Aussie distributer/retailer for CV stuff has the new 35 1.4 listed at $A595 and the L6 lenshood at $A65. Which is the ballpark price for most CV stuff Downunder. At that price they'll sell boatloads.
I got an Ultron this summer while I save for a summilux but now this little guy, which can focus down to .7 has my FULL attention. I will have to see some shots and just how sharp it is but since the bank account isn't growing any faster I will get it if the results look good. That will put me up to three CV 35 lenses!
Go check out the Nippon Camera page http://www.nippon-camera.com/monthly.php# and click the third bulleted link to see a small picture of the new nokton mounted on an Ikon. I wish I were back in Japan so I could hold this magazine in my hands.

I don't know about you, but I think a $500 price would sell better than a $1000 price.
Unless you're in the Pentagon. ;)
I still am impressed they went with "f/1.4" and not "f/1.5" or "f/1.6"
