Hello ,
Which 35 mm cameras used by Ansel Adams and William Henry Jackson ?
What were their serial numbers with lenses ?
Is there a gallery about these cameras.
I learned that AA used Contax and WHJ , Kodak but which ?

Since William Henry Jackson died at age 99 in 1942, I'd be surprised if he used any 35mm cameras, unless just to play around with towards the end of his life. He certainly didn't use them to take the photos he is famous for.

With big possiblty , they all used tessar
In his book, "The Camera," I believe Adams specifically cites the Contax & lens he used for some of the example shots. I don't have a copy handy, but IIRC, it was a Contax III.

AA shot with a Contax II (IIa?). I've seen at least two pictures of it with what looks like a 1.5/50 Sonnar. Stieglitz also had one of these, late in his career.
From a huge Adams survey show I saw many years ago, I vaguely recolllect that Adams used a 1936-vintage Contax II camera. I don't know what else he did with it, but during the '30s he used it for a series of environmental portraits of artists and writers. A good selection of these was included in the show, and I have to say I found them more interesting than his better-known landscape work.
So yes, Adams was an RF guy! Too bad he's no longer around, he would have been a nice addition to the Contax forum here...
FWIW, see the last post from Andy Piper in this old photo.net thread:

And from this thread on photographyreview, it appears he did own a Contax III, w/5cm/2.8 Tessar:

I agree with everyone else that Adams occasionally used a Contax, as I remember seeing it in photos a Contax II from the late 1930s.
And the answer about Jac kson is also correct: his major photography was done before the time of the 35mm camera; much of it, in fact, was done with wet plates.
