BrAun Hobby F 270: anybody replaced their NiCad batteries ?

I just picked-up a couple of brAun F-270 flash units, with chargers that seem to work fine on the charger/AC, but I fear the batteries inside are beyond their usuable life-span.

Is there are way to rejuvenate the OEM batteries or has anyone replaced the batteries with fresh NiCads / Lithium-ions ?
