There is a show scheduled in March in Valley Forge PA (a suburb of Phila) that seems to be a recurring show about 4 times a year. Anyone familiar with the show? Is it worth going for folks like us or is it all digital.

Any first hand experince would be helpful.

Thanks.

Ray

It's a Photorama show, right? It's been a while since I was last there, but no, it's not all digital. The prices are more than eBay or RFF, but at least you can see the equipment in person.

It's a decent show if you get there early. There's generally some decent analogue pickings. A local Leica / Nikon used equipment guy (http://www.danblackleica.com/)generally attends. I've gotten some great deals from him over the years. He is strictly non-digital. Don't know if he'll be attending this year, although he's generally at all the local shows. If you're planning on attending let me know. There's a small group of Philadelphia area RFF folk around, and it's always good to meet people with similar interests. If you're interested, let's touch base shortly before the show.

Do you have the date or do I need to root around for a copy of Shutterbug?

eBay has cut into the stock at this show, but it is great to be able to handle equipment.

I used to buy everything at this type of show, much better than eBay.

It appears to be in Ft. Washington, a few exits East on the PA turnpike on March 2nd. Seeing that it's a Sunday, I can be there if there is enough interest. We might be able to find a decent place to eat up that way after the show.

I've been to a few of these. Yes, eBay has cut into the market. It's a great place to pick up filters and odds and ends. I've never bought a camera or lens, but I found a nice general brand zoom viewfinder -- not quite a Tewe, but better than those turret jobs. I'll try to make it in March, and will keep the subscription to this thread in case any others are going.

Sorry I haven't been back sooner after posting this thread.....thank you all for responding. I will be attending the show also. I have never been to one of these and I really would like to see some of the gear and handle it. Evil bay has definately changed the way things go.

Thanks again!!

Bump. Is this still likely to happen? I need to plan a bit ahead as I'm coming from NYC on my way home, so I need to know what exit on the NJ Turnpike to get off that day...

JeffGreene

Al:

You'd get off on exit 6 of the turnpike. Fort Washington is accessible through the Ambler exit of the PA turnpike. I don't remember the number off hand. I'll be there on March 2nd. Let's plan on meeting at a local hotel.

All the best,

Jeff

I'll check out what's in that area hotel wise. I usually get off the turnpike at Exit 3, so I need to remind myself to get off at Exit 6, which I hardly ever use. If I were coming from home, I'd be using 476 from the South. This time I'll be coming south late on the First. I may just stay in a hotel at that exit if I can find one for a decnt price.

As I remember, there's a Holiday Inn right at the exit. It's about 3-5 miles from the Convention Center where the Show is. We could probably meet there at a mutually agreeable time, although it's probably best to meet up at the show. A couple of other guys were interested as well. Let me know what you think.

I'm going, but not for all 6 hours. Probably when it opens. Since I've never met you guys, is there a high sign or something? I don't know what I'll be wearing, as we don't plan laundry this far in advance.

Both Al and Me (Jeff Greene) will probably be wearing the old Rangefinder Forum caps. At least one of us should be wearing them. Look forward to meeting you. Nick and Al have already expressed interest. Don't know about Nick, but Al appears to be attending. By the way, the guy in my avatar is not me, just one of the guys I shoot Trap with. See you there.

I'll be there, but as I'm coming home from NYC late Saturday, I'll likely not be up early enough to get there at 10:00AM. How about we try to meet by the entrance to the show around noon?

I'm not sure if I have the RFF hat in my car, but I'll be wearing it if I have it. If not, I'll be wearing my Indiana Jones fedora.

My first name is Jeff. Definitely will be there (blue jeans and a blue baseball cap: aw heck, if you see someone who's a dead ringer for Cary Grant, that's me).
Probably soon after 10, but I'll try to find Al at noon. (If the show has shrunk even more, I'll hang in a nearby lobby with a trashy novel.)

Jeff, Jorge, Al, Nick and John (i.e. Huffy, hope you can make it!):

See everyone there. I'll bring some of my collection to share. John (i.e. Huffy) brought some great old cameras to our last get-together. If you have interestiing old cameras bring them along. Hope you can make it, Nick! I'll be wearing one of the old Rangefinderforum hats. I hope to be there by 10:00. Look forward to seeing everyone!

Best regards,

Jeff Greene

Just in case anyone missed it, the show has been moved to the Holiday Inn. Also, there are several decent restaurants nearby - depends on if you're in the mood for Indian, Mexican, Italian, Roast Beef...

I'm heading down tonight instead of staying up here tonight, so I might actually get there at 10:00AM. If I'm a bit later, I'll look around for guys.

It wasn't bad. The Photorama guy said the response, at least in the morning, was much better than they'd had in the past. All the regulars were there:

Woodmere Camera
Brooklyn Camera
Dan Black

And many others. I was able to get in early, and snagged an Oly 35RC for $5.00. Everything worked but the meter. Have sent it off to Camtech for a CLA and meter repair. Al Patterson and Jeff Polaski were there. We had a good meal, spent some time talking rangefinders, and have tentatively got a shoot date for the next Tattoo show. Went there last year with Vagabond (since moved to Colorado) and got some great shots.

It's a great show for people stuff or "animal photography" as Winogrand used to say. Please join us. It's scheduled for April 18th - 20th at the Philadelphia Sheraton. Here's an example of what's available:

I'm not familiar with Camtech....could you send me more info?

I may be out of town on those dates in April but I will let you know.

I'm pissed I couldn't get to the show...life is too busy somtimes.

Thanks again.
