View Full Version : Gallery Picks for Week Ending Monday 7 January 2008
ClaremontPhoto
01-06-2008, 22:01
'Gallery Picks' is just a bunch of us giving a heads up to what we have seen during the past seven days at RFF that we like.
There's no membership requirement, no criteria (except past seven days), no voting, no limit to the number of photos we mention, and everybody mentioned is a winner.
Anybody can start the thread on a Monday morning.
Anybody can join in.

I'd be very intereted to know what film & processing you use Jon. I really like the colours in your photographs.
I think you use a Bessa with available light, but your cafe interiors and outdoor night-time shots have a certain quality that I seriously admire.

Thank you.
It's about half and half Fuji Reala and Fuji Sensia (in the case of the Sensia processed in C41, not E6).
Both stocks are out of date by several years and never been near a fridge.
And you're right, it's available light with the lens wide open and slow shutter. Also a few beers and firming up group dynamics with the guys late in the evening.

These threads are a great institution, wrongfully undeappreciated I might add.
Agreed. I think it here, and you say it there.
The whole Gallery is under used, and under appreciated, and under promoted.
When we go to RFF we ought to see photos. Maybe five random, maybe five most recent, maybe five most popular, whatever. We ought to see photos; not discussions on the best lens cap or some such silliness.
Has there been any action taken on that proposal for having the "top-pick" (?) on the front page?
Yes, Pitxu, it was, but nothing done about. Pehaps the Bartender must be asked again?
ClaremontPhoto

The answer will be no photos on the front page.
Photos of cameras for sale excepted.
I look at photos every day, but buy a camera once every ten or fifteen years.

I liked this: (and remember being very drunk in Regents Park singing it...)
There once was a very famous man
On his famous horse he'd ride through the land
The people used to see him everywhere
When he died, they put a statue in the square
(hooray)
Here comes the Equestrian Statue
Prancing up and down the square
Little old ladies stop 'n' say
"Well, I declare!"
Once a month on a Friday there's a man
With a mop and bucket in his hand
To him it's just another working day
So he whistles as he rubs and scrubs away
(hooray)
Here comes the Equestrian Statue
Prancing up and down the square
Little old ladies stop 'n' say
"Well, I declare!"
It's a sight to bring you joy, you feel so gay
And it's guaranteed to brighten up your day
If it's gray
(hooray)

Odd for a photography site.

Yes, CameraQuest said no random photos, and back alley has repeated it several times.
Maybe no random pictures, but a more or less static "pick of the week"? Was anyone opposed to having pictures on the front page on principle? I don't think so, but maybe I overlooked something
Odd for a photography site.
Well, if it's true that Stephen wants no pictures at all on the front page (not only randomly generated ones that incur server load, but none in general), the question is whether this is a photography site at all or rather a gear sit.

I've come to appreciate these types of pics of Jon's ... at first they mystified me !
Actually Lzr is right, typical "maccaroni" (dried pasta) is from Naple area they're perfect with tomato sauce or "ragù napolatano" sauce, in tuscany we have "maccheroni" (fresh pasta, different recipe and shape from the naple ones) perfect for "ragù bolognese" sauce.
Gnocchi al gorgonzola are typical of the northern italian regions and are completely different (but very tasty too) from maccaroni and maccheroni ...
hope this help, it's lunchtime here!
