'Gallery Picks' is just a bunch of us giving a heads up to what we have seen during the past seven days at RFF that we like.

There's no membership requirement, no criteria (except past seven days), no voting, no limit to the number of photos we mention, and everybody mentioned is a winner.

Anybody can start the thread on a Monday morning.

Anybody can join in.

Pitxu ... 'Running Man'

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=75989&cat=fav

I like Pitxu's work more and more and this is an example of being there at the right moment ... which is a real strength with his photography.

I know this town a little as an overnight stop and am amazed that he shows me a side of it that I never knew existed.

mauro scacco ... 'Italian Cowboy'

I like where the cyclist is in the frame ... it makes me wonder where he's come from? The tones in this appeal to me also.

First of all: thanks Jon for keeping this thread alive! I hope you continue in 2008 :)

Then, congratulations to all the members who posted pictures in the gallery and invited us to pay attention to unsuspected beauty and poetry in daily life, or showed exotism and amazing landscapes.

Now, my selection of the week:

Pitxu for Izen gabe 5 (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=76200&cat=all&limit=last)
A wonderful picture of Basque breeders, composed like a painting. I really like this one.

&
Izen gabe 4 (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=76197&cat=all&limit=last7)

At first look this picture is just a good picture, well composed, but a bit cliché IMVHO. But on close look, it’s a great one, very meaningful. If I see it correctly, the shadow on the wall is not the one of the main subject (though the shadow could be seen as the main subject). The shadow is the one of a young man, a strong young man as Basque men usually are. The contrast between the main character and the shadow is then symbolic; it could mean youth is nothing but a ghost to this old man. He looks at the young man, smiles and remembers the old days.
And technically, it’s perfect (composition, exposure, tonality, sharpness).

lZR for Artist (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=76120&cat=all&limit=last7)
I like this portrait, I like the grain. I don’t get the title but this adds mystery to the picture.

Tedwhite for Nurse (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=76108&cat=all&limit=last7)
One of the most striking picture this week. A beautiful natural light portrait of a natural beautiful woman.

Budgreen for *** (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=76099)
Another poem by Budgreen written with light.

Mauro Scacco for Italian Cowboy (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=76078&cat=all&limit=last7)
Fine composition with a power diagonal and an interesting subject, riding a bike in the countryside, wearing a smart coat and a steson.

Telenious for *** (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=76073&cat=all&limit=last7)
After the Spaghetti Western ;) , the « film noir » : a dark and powerful portrait.

Memphis for Emma (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=76038)
A lovely kid portrait.

AshenLight for Sophie (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=75977&cat=all&limit=last7)
A powerful dog picture. Difficult exposure but perfectly handled.

And Picture of the week ::: Nico for *** (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=75991&cat=all&limit=last7) :::

A great composition, a great catch, a great picture full of symbolism. Bravo Nico.

Thanks for voting for my Artist. To clarify the Title of this shot, I was pushed to speak Arabic and ask him not to pose for me. I wanted him natural, but can not say I was successful with that. So I see him as player, by mean of Artist in theater.

A deep thanks to all of you who felt my photo, "Nurse" worthy of mention. I love photographing people - it's most diffucult, most challenging, and most satisfying when one gets it right. Also, thanks Leica M2 Fan for selecting "Movement."

Again, thanks to all.

Also, in viewing your pics in general, these, too, are the photographs that caught my eye.

As I am virtually computer illiterate and don't know how to contribute to this weekly thread - but would dearly love to - I think I'll PM Pixtu and see if he can show me how.

tedwhite:

Go to the photo you wish to mention and copy the address from the address bar. In Apple OSX I use Command + C, Windows is likely similar.

Then in this weekly thread type the photographer's name, the title of the photo, and a short description or comment. Finally paste in the address of the photo, I use Command + V.

The RFF system will add the correct codes behind the scenes to make the address clicky. But I always check mine as it's easy to praise one photo and show another!

Try it now?
