Through a trade I just acquired an absolutely gorgeous DS M3 (there is only some very slight bright marks on the top and bottom plate, looks like it could have came out of a display case in a camera shop in 1964). Now, I have one question... are the 50mm framelines supposed to stay on even if a 90mm or 135mm lens is mounted? Its been two years since I've used an M3 so I can't remember how the frames are supposed to be. I thought it was like an M2 where the frames each come up individually, but I could be wrong.

Also, the vertical and infinity focus are slightly off. Must have been bumped around during shipping. Any chance the shipping company would cover that as part of the insurance?

That would really be a stretch, but if the Camera had a CLA right before it was shipped, and there is a receipt, and if you kept all the packing, and there is damage to the packing, then sure you could make a claim.

Thats what I figured, just thought I'd ask.

So now the framelines... I seriously can't remmeber if the 50mm lines are supposed to stay paired with the 90 and 135 lines when those lenses are mounted?

Yes, the 50mm frame lines are always visible in the M3 finder. Other lenses will call up other frame lines, but the big ones for 50mm will always remain.

OK, that makes me feel a lot better. However, I do feel silly for slightly panicking last night and emailing DAG saying that my framelines were "stuck".

The DS M3 sitting on my desk always shows the 50mm frame lines, regardless of what lens is mounted.

Frame lines:

M3: 50 or 50 + 90 or 50 + 135
M2: 35 or 50 or 90

Thanks everyone for your help. Knowing that the 50mm frame stays up the whole time is a great relief, I thought I had a junker for a minute!
