hey guys

i am trying to take the top plate off for the painting project for the Fed 2G/L
the one with the lever
but i face a problem at the very begining... :(

how could i take the lever off...?
i mean the film counter and the gost reminding things...
there are two tiny holes on it
i think i should put something in it and unscrew it, right?
which way should i turn? left? right?
i put in a tweezers, it came off and scratch the thing... :(
should i get some other tools... :(

Yes, first take off the counter and film reminder. Tweezers may not hold it so use something stronger, I use an old pair of compasses but you do need to be careful or it'll slip. It unscrews as a normal, left-hand thread. Once you've removed the counter and film reminder dials you'll see how the lever comes off. Don't worry about the return-spring, it won't fly unwound on FEDs.

Be sure you make a careful note of all the parts and exactly how they fit, there are several spring-washers and so on under the various "layers" of the lever, counter and film-reminder parts. If you put them together in the wrong order then one or more of the dials will not work afterwards.

I have never tried to take this part of the camera to bits, but in other cases I discovered 'the hard way' that it is a very good idea to make some digi-pics of every stage, so that there is a reference for when it goes back together.

Maybe you have some circlip-pliers ? Those can be very useful for that sort of flat-nut thing, if the ends of the pliers are small enough of course.

Good luck with the painting and of course everyone will like to see the result :)
