The full story in Haiku (see another rff thread for idea)
Fleamarket kiev
year 56 vintage
I passed by.

metered Kiev3 from local fleamarket, I could have it for $25. On the minus side - meter long died, second curtain would not close or close with delay. On the plus side - it had squarish kiev case and 56 vintage Jupiter-8 "red p" with ears attached. That j8... Looks like CZJ production, maybe original zeiss glass(?). Could it be good user?

Hello,

An interesting parts camera. I would have bought that one only for the lens :)
An aperture ring with ears is uncommon in a 1956 J8 lens.

All the best,
Jean

Jean, why actually J8 with ears of '56 vintage is uncommon? What is (hidden) meaning of "red p" - I understand it's kind of T*-coated?

Aperture rings with ears can be found around 1950-51, I've never seen some samples after 1952 as year production. But I may be wrong. I believe "red P" means coated. What is the kiev fleamarket price for a working camera ? Are Kievs 3 cameras hard to find items ?

Lens tube and aperture ring with `ears` + lens block from Jupiter-8 or 1956 = `strange` J8. No chance to find Zeiss Glass, it was obsolete around 54-55 and same time lens schemes were recalculate for Soviet optical glass.

I got 1957 Kiev 3a with `ordinary` J8 of 1957 - very strong performer.
