View Full Version : Christmas Present for you
I have a medium format camera that I'm throwing to someone as a christmas present...
First, a few questions:
1) have you been naughty or nice? ( I want details!!! ;) , but only if you were naughty)
2) Do you already have a Medium format camera? (this does not preclude you from Santa's gift)
3) You have to promise two things... a) Mail me a large print from this camera b)send a camera or lens or something helpful to another member of the forum...
4) This is kind of a secret santa --- you can make whatever fair and spirited terms that need be, but I am encouraging photography here!!!! --- Ideally, we all have lots of gear and can afford to part with some stuff...
I've got a few other goodies in my rucksack (135 lens, visoflex II, and so forth... so, post on here and merry christmas everybody

Memphis - nice idea. I don't need a MF, but hope it goes to a good home.
OK, I'll take it if your Santa will ship overseas :) Here's my answers:
(1) Moderately nice :)
(2) Yes
(3) OK, you'll get a print and some other RFFer will get something nice, probably something from the Soviet Union, I haven't decided what but something will be found :)

hm, that is very nice of you memphis and tempting too and I was extremely nice whole year, but I guess there are people with less gear than me who would be happy to get this nice gift.
P.S. If you are talking about Mamiya 7, Bronica RF of some nice Rollei, what I have wrote above does not count, I want it no matter what :)

I guess one can never have too many MF, but I must be approaching the limit. Wonderul idea though, Memphis. I hope it enriches your life twice as much as you hope for.
Great idea, Blake.
I have several MF cameras, so I excuse myself.
Let the better RFF member win.
1) I've been very good.
2) I have a medium format camera (Rollei Tessar TLR) that doesn't get used enough
As others have noted, please let your camera go to someone who is really in need of MF.
However... I do have a Santa Picture from Jost Van Dyke (British Virgin Islands)!
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/6336/1020252yy2.jpg
I try really hard to be nice, but no ones perfect.
I have no medium format cameras and I've spent the last couple weeks shooting with a borrowed hassy and now I'm trying to figure out what I can sell to get a MF camera.
I love making big prints! I'l send you a bunch.
And I have a nice screwmount canon 50/1.8 and a Ugly Rigid Cron that I don't use.
:)

Looking at that second pic I can't believe you would get rid of that lens ... that's the closest thing thing we've had to 'Leica Glow' here for a while! :)
I'm just some crazy kid eh? hah
They do look nice and glowey though...
Nice and very generous idea!
1) Very nice I guess. I was even gentle to my step mother. The other day I helped a poor young lady clear 2 ft. of snow off her car after the first snowstorm and I even didn't ask her to invite me for a drink.
2) No but I've always wanted to try it.
3)
a) Promised. Can it be an inkjet print?
b) Promised too but how can I choose my victim?
Merry Xmas to you Memphis!

1) Mostly nice, but I did succumb to the sin of lust, I spent far too much time looking at pictures of gear.
2) Er, a Holga, and I am buying a Dualflex from someone here.
3) a) Again, does inkjet count? I don't have access to an enlarger.
b) I've got an F mount 50 pancake I might be able to part with, and an outdated Sony Digital Mavica (I wouldn't wish that monster on an enemy!). Not much in the way of gear sitting around.
I'll look around for stuff when I get home this Friday.
4) Any idea for the mechanics of the secret santa stuff? As in addresses being traded without giving away who is sending what...
EDIT: Secret Santa type stuff is fun to do, I'm going to search around for something fun.
I try really hard to be nice, but no ones perfect.

Darn it! I wish I had a MF camera to trade for that canon 50/1.8. I'm not much into MF eventhough I have been tempted a time or two. I need to become more proficent using a 35mm rangefinder before I take that kind of step. I do have a metal lense shade for a sumricron 39mm that might make some one happy for Christmas. I also have a spare bulk loader I might be willing to part with.

Memphis this is a very nice thought on your part:
1) I have been naughty and nice depending on who you talk to. If it is my wife, she will tell you that I have been naughty all year, and how lazy I am. If you talk to my employer, they will tell you how hard I work to make a difference in my job. If you talk to my mom, she will tell you that I have been nice. If you talk to my dad, hw will tell you that I am a pain in the ass. If you talk to my cat, she will tell you, that I am the only who loves her and pays attention to. so there you have it.
2) I do have a medium format. I work with Special needs kids and I have started a photography group for them. I am always looking for more cameras for them to use. I allow them to use mine as well.
3) I do have my own darkroom so I can send you a large print or one of my students images.
anything will help, but also have mangaed without. I would really like to see your offer to go to someone in need, It would be helpful, but I am not desperate.

Memphis,
Very nice gesture. There are many people here who have done wonderful things for others, and I have benefited from the benevolence of many here.
1) I think I have been nice (although I did sell a Contax III parts camera Stu W gave me for a little profit to buy a Jupiter 12 lens for a Kiev someone else gave me.)
2) I do not have a MF camera. I have been eyeing up Yashicamats, but lack the funds to pull the trigger (although I did buy an Industar 61 L/D for a FED 3 someone gave me)
3) a) If it is working 6x6 camera you are giving away, I can promise a large print, since I have a negative holder for 6x6 film for my Bessler. Otherwise I would have to convince my father-in-law to let me borrow his scanner and printer.
b) For a working MF camera, I would give away my Jupiter 12 I have for sale together with the working KIEV 4a with a Jupiter 8m I received as a gift. I would even throw in a 2nd parts Kiev 4a that I also received as a gift.
The generosity of people here as allowed me to try KIEV and FED cameras. I have decided to stick with the FED, and would love the see the Kiev gear go to someone in the spirit it was given to me.

Great idea! I have a Yashicamat I don't use much, and no working cameras to give, but I'll be following this thread. I'll have to get something ready for next year in case this becomes an annual event.
so far, everybody's been a little naughty, a little nice... keep 'em coming, I'll be sending private messages this week

Memphis,
Merry Christmas to you too!
What a great offer...I am just now looking into MF anf LF although the timing is bad...I am just now getting my head around rangefinders!
This is such a neat way to get more interest in our little window on the world.
Thanks for your generous offer.
Kudos, Memphis...
Carl gets the MF -simply because I'm a letch and thought his pics were attractive of the lady- I've still got presents for delivery...

Can't help but sound like a mooch asking, but I could use a second ltm lens.
I have a nice albeit sticky canon 50/1.8. It had a run in with some melted ice cream.
Still a beautiful picture taker.
So someone should show me some pretty pictures. :)
I would love another ltm lens, as currently I only have one 50mm elmar, and most of my photography is portrait/musicians which really require a longer lens length.
1. I have been Nice
2. I do not have a MF or a hektor lens, nor will I be able to purchase one in the near future due to my going to school fulltime and being a musician. I am however starting to build my stature in the area I live as a photographer and have landed a couple of magazines that have my photos and local galleries.
3. I'd love to send you a print, and I recently gave away a Honeywell Repronar and a Target Brownie Camera with 2 rolls of film MF and 3 rolls 35mm. I also have a Vivtar Flash Bracket that I have no real use for, so if need be I can trade that as well if you want me to give away more.
Here's a couple of my shots, including one of a beautiful singer (Nnenna Freelon)

I'd put a Canon 50 to good use, as I hear they're pretty darn nice!
Edit: I don't need a long lens, Mudman is a better candidate.
That is such a beautiful photo. Its over exposed yet properly exposed all at the same time. Nice job. Also, I have the flash bracket in a box ready to go if we do do a secret santa thing.
visoflex II for the next good boy or girl to post a pretty girl pic!!!

You could take a look at the classifieds want to buy-section and make it a happy christmas for someone over there.

I really could have used a RF when I took these shots, unfortunatly all I has was an SLR, but I've just got a Bessa this week and could use a long lens. I'm way up here in Canada so I'd chip in for shipping if you want!

I just got a pm from Memphis, so it is time to move something of mine along as well. Hmmmm.... to make it interesting. I have mucho stuffo laying around, but a Zorki 4 seems to be the likely candidate. It has already been gone through and it is nice and shiny (don't have a lens with it though). The first person to post a picture of a...... beer! And to further complicate it it has to have been shot in black and white! If you are a starving student you are exempt from this, you can just have it.

Patrick, If you wish to give away the zorki 4, I would be glad to take it off your hands for my 13 year old son to use. He is just learning to shoot and develop his own black and white film.
Not sure if that is suitable, but if it is, let me know:)

and please - can you teach me how to put photos inside my messages? like mudman for example.
No one has taken me up on the flash bracket either. I have no use for it, as I have no flash :) nzeeman - when you attach the photo or load it to the web, right click (or control click if you have a 1 click mouse) and select copy image location. Click on the little mountain in the message scree, and paste the location there (control or apple v).

hey thanks - that site looks beautiful. i knew about camera museum but ive never seen lens section until now. :(
the visoflex and the hektor went into the mail today, Carl should already have his camera, and I'm digging around ---- Santa has gotten me a Vulcanette C covering for the m3 from cameraleather.com
also at the blues jam, one of my friends gave me an acoustic guitar stand...
I'd give you this guitar memphis if you pay shipping.
53538
damn... that's pretty --- I don't do much electric work though --- I'm doing a lot of delta slide blues with a sigma I picked up really cheap
I'd give you this guitar memphis if you pay shipping.
53538
BTW, what model is that? I don't think I've ever seen headstock markings like that--- it's a beauty
the arthritis in the hands is pretty commonplace w/ musicians --- a good place to extend the offer is http://blindman.forumhoster.com/ - it's a great blues forum and a lot of european blues guys hang out there...
my solution for the left hand syndrome:
tune the guitar to:
DADGAD and play slide guitar --- much easier on the hands and a lot less work
also: side note, best place to get true authentic delta blues slides (hand cut, etc) www.mrbsguitarslides.com --- This is the one I use and it has an amazing tone... best slide I've ever used.

Jeremy, if you see this post, please consider giving a little time or food to your local food shelf:)
Pitxu,
I'd like to recommend a wonderful music academy for underpriviliged children -- this school is an amazing musical resource that will be training tomorrow's musicians:
The Stax Music Academy mentors young people--primarily those residing in the Soulsville, USA neighborhood of Memphis--through music education and unique performance opportunities, with the goals of enhancing their leadership and academic skills and inspiring them to become facilitators for community change.
donateA bass guitar with no strings. A drum set with no sticks. A Hammond B-3 organ with no keys. Without your help, the Stax Music Academy just can't jam.
As a non-profit organization, the Stax Music Academy relies on the generosity of individuals like you to make our music education programs and unique performance opportunities possible. Your gift today will help hundreds of Memphis youth learn, grow, and find their voice at the Stax Music Academy this year.
All gifts are fully tax-deductible to amount allowed by law. Please make your gift today.
I personally find them to be an amazing organization

Let's give away a few SLR cameras with lenses to needy people. This is the right time to get things done. I recommend calling the local junior college and ask for the photography teacher there. She/he may have needy students who are enrolled in a photography course. What I mean by "needy" is relative. A truely needy person cannot afford photography at all.
Again this year great things happen here!
Bravo! :)
merry christmas everybody
I wish you the same.

That is a great jesture Raid and I wish you luck my friend. We have/had one of the best Photography schools to be a Community College on the East coast. Many students from all over would come. The school store was like going into a photo shop. Chemicals really cheap for students and just about any thing you wanted. Now the courses i'm afraid are totatally digital. I hope yours is still analog. It's a shame to see this happening all over the country. So when you call the school and if they happen to tell you that they have no use for them, just remember my brother it's whats in the heart that counts.
Happy Holidays
