Jan. 2008 p. 24...titled "Retro Style." Nice two page spread. Bud talks about his very simple analogue approach. A warm, cozy, laid back interview, just like Bud's photos. Makes me want to get into my cowboy jammies.

I checked online, they didn't put it on the site, it seems, so go check it out at your favorite magazinery. Congrats Bud! :)

He hasn't posted much on the forums lately, perhaps choosing instead to speak through his photography, which is really superb. I wish I had his technique.:bang:

Good stuff Bud, congratulations.

I would love to hear a little bit about the experience. How did they find you? Contact you? What was the interview process?

Again, congratulations.

Congratulations on this accomplishment, Bud. Thousands of photographers will get to know our Bud a little better. Like many people here, I also like his photos.

I e-mailed Bud over on flickr which is where the magazine guy found out about his photos. As of Thursday night, he had not seen the article yet. I thought the article was really nice and I was quite pleased that he's getting a bit of recognition for his excellent work.

Bud's photography is superb, his use of light preternatural. It has been a real joy watching as he gradually articulated his very own, instantly recognizable photographic vocabulary.

Congratulations Bud, well deserved.

Great news. I have to find someone who sells POP PHOTO over here.

Bud Green is one of the great photographers I discovered when I joined rff. He really deserves closer attention for his work - as Alkis said: Bud did find an unique way of taking pictures, both technically and artistically. I canīt wait to see new pictures by him.

Wow, thanks a lot everyone. I really appreciate your very kind remarks. And thank you, Steve, for starting this thread. I don't have a Pop Photo subscription, so I just picked up a copy myself today.

The photo editor at pop photo evidently stumbled across my photos over at flickr. She contacted me a few months ago about doing the "How I Shot This" feature, which is a regular monthly column. We did about a 30 minute interview over the phone, a portion of which wound up in the article.

It was thrill for me (not to mention my sons) to see one of my photos in print. Thanks again for all of the support and encouragement you all have given me.

Bud

Some of the most amazing work I see is from people I've never heard of. RFf has had the greatest number of people doing great stuff behind the camera, and Bud's work is among the most jaw-dropping. Technical chops to burn, but, far more important, heart. A cup of cheer, and congratulations!

Unfortunately Bud I haven't been able to see your photography in print as I'm on the other side of the water. However I would like to congratulate you on this recognition nonetheless and reiterate my respect for the body of work you consistently add to.

I think many of us here will agree that we make our photographs 'off the cuff' and as and when we can which, certainly for me, leaves my gallery (and therefore my neg folders) much too diverse for any real sense of identity and/or personality to come through with interest still intact. You have understood the 'true' meaning of photography in that it is about the passion you have for your subject, and indeed that there is a subject at all, the technical ability comes secondary to that and serves only to add to the qualities that are passion, understanding and love of subject.

I'm glad to see you back at RFF a little more often these days and I certainly hope that I can see some more of your stunningly tender images. I have seen some recently but not had time to comment, hopefully this weekend I can view the gallery in more depth.

If anybody is able to scan and post the article for those of us who can't see it I for one would be grateful *UNLESS OF COURSE THIS BREAKS ANY COPYRIGHT LAWS* ...which it probably would!!

Congratulations again Bud.

I'm off to check out the magazine. I first saw Bud's posts here on RFF when I was wet behind the ears with my C-four.

Then I sort of went wild on flickr for years (plural, time flies!) and added him as a contact along the way.

I love the way his style never changes. That's the key to being great I think. You see a photo and you can tell if it's a Bud Green photo. While I employ a widely shotgun approach to bad photography, Bud is a focused guy!

The way he makes Tri-X and whatever developer he choses to behave like he does is amazing to me. That and his ablity to see the dark/light relationship in a composition required to make good b&w photos is something most of us can learn from.

Cool beans!

I agree with so much of what has been written in praise of your photographic efforts, Bud. The subtle interplay of whites and darks seems to be yours to depict at will; I am happy for you and I honour your efforts. Some of your work with your sons is sublime. I often wonder which ratios of rodinal and D76 you use; it looks to me as if you use d76 1:1 and rodinal 50:1, but I wonder if you play with your developers? Respectfully, Thomas

I've been waiting for this to reach Pop Photo's website as I really admire Bud's work.
