Just got my 35 UC Hex from Japan (#0791/1000)

Wow. What a marvelous little lens. Just going off of the feel right now - since I won't be able to shoot with it until this weekend.
But I have to say I am very impressed with the solid construction of this. One thing I really like when compared to the 35 Summicron V4 is the way the focusing tab is attached. Two screws provide a rock-solid bond on the hexanon. I'm not even sure how the focusing tab is attached to the summicron, but there has been a tiny bit of play in it with both copies of that lens that I have owned.

Of course, the real test is comparing the images. I hope to do some side-by-side shots this weekend to test it out.

Congrats. What does "UC" stand for anyway?

Ultra Cool, I believe:)

Actually, I have no idea, though I have wondered the same thing.

I'd be happy to post some comparison shots on my M8 with the 35 hex and 35 cron IV.

Several months ago I bought the 35/2 UC Hexanon and wound up selling my 35/2 ASPH Summicron as a result. Here are some comparison shots: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39013 and here: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39184
All shots taken with Velvia 100 film, Leica MP.

Neat, I hope to see the results of that shoot out. I'd love to compare the lenses of exactly the same subject.

UC = Ultra Coating unless proven otherwise.

Ulta Cool is a close second.

I read somewhere on photo.net that it was thought to be ultra coated. Congrats on the new lens! :)

awilder, just reviewed your comparison. the UC really holds up against the asph, I can see why you sold the asph. I too like the slightly sharper OOF areas.

Not having seen many images from the UC, it'll be nice to see Tim's comparison shots. I'm not in the market yet, but the UC is lookin' good.

Ultra compact.
I read in an issue of Asahi Camera back in 2000 or something, compared the 3 versions of UCs...I can't find the magazine now...
This is the same lens on Hexar, Hexar Silver.

i sit corrected. I think I was confusing it with a single coating lens that I saw recently.

Corrected that is. Ultra Compact makes sense. Except the Konica 35mm UC is larger than my Canon 35/2.8. The extra stop must be the reason.
