View Full Version : Bokeh 50 Hex
I thought I'd post this little comparison:
First shot was taken with Hexanon 50/2.

Second - with Planar 50/2 ZM.

I like Hex better, so I kept it and sold Planar.
Krosya, I bought the Hex after seeing your photos, in particular the B+W
portrait with leaves in the background, that you once posted.
(the fact that Erik made me an offer that I couldn't resist helped of course :) )
Best,
Roland.
I hate it that I have to sell my Hexanon.

Hope you are happy with it as I am. It's a great lens!
I now understand all the hexanon love! I bought a 28 hexanon and I can't believe the good contrast. The shots with this lens all pop out from the negatives. I exaxtly know which we're shot with the hexanon.
Now I'm regreting for not having bought the 60 1.2 when it was relatively cheap, last year, when I could...
I can't lust for the other Hexanons because I own the faster Leicas but I fully understand how good they can be!
But since Krosya already said the hexanon was close to the noctilux, and I own the noctilux, I guess I'm good.
One of my kits is 90/2 v3, Hex 50/2 and 28/1.9.
I find they work extremely well together :).

Krosya, you've already sold the Planar? The Hexanon 50 seems wonderful.

Yes I did. Hex does the great job for me, so no need for Planar, which in itself a great lens. Just not for me.
Thanks for posting these. I think I like the OOF of the Planar better in the samples. I like how smooth it is. Were there other reasons you kept the Hex and sold the Planar?
Well,
Other than I prefer the way Hexanon "draws" the image, I liked the way it handles better - focus and apperture rings feel more comfortale to me, I like built-in hood of Hex. It's a bit more compact. Don't get me wrong - it was a very close call, I really like Planar too, it's just little things that made me reach for Hex more often than Planar won the toss up.

Hard to compare these two as they appear to be taken at different apertures. The lower photo has more DOF.

I can kinda do that: 90/2.8 Elmarit, 50/2.0 DR Summicron, 28/2.8 M-Hexanon
Or this: 85/2.0 Nikkor, 50/1.4 Nikkor, 28 M-Hexanon

I don't know about the comparison here, but I've been happy with my 50/2 M-Hex (and the 28/2.8M-Hex that came before it, and the 90/2.8 M-Hex that came shortly after it) for a number of years now. The only thing I can say is that, from a technical standpoint, the results have pleased me.

I got the same in All Hexanon line - 50/2-90/2.8-28/2.8 now. Mmm! Tasty set on either M6 or Hexar RF!

I've owned all three KM lenses: 28,50,90. All had exceptional build quality and good optics, but oddly, they were eventually sold and replaced by Leica lenses for various reasons. The 28 and 90 when I sold my CLE and the 50 because my tabbed 'Cron was just a bit sharper and had more bite to the imaging. Of all the 50's I've ever tried (including the 50/1.4 ASPH), the current formula while not perfect, performs better overall if a faster lens isn't needed.
