Jeremy, Congrats on the fisheye purchase. I'm no expert on Minolta lenses, but I saw your earlier discussion, where you considered a Zenitar. IMHO, you made the right decision to go with this lens. It looks good to me. It's not brand new, so it has already depreciated, and you can resell it later with less of a hit, if you want.

Looks like a fine lens. I use the heck out of my Canon full frame fisheye. Also, I don't think you will be disappointed with any "lack" of distortion.

Enjoy.

Sure it's a good buy.
Sure looks -sweet-.
Enjoy it!

PS Essex Camera Service did some recent Minolta repairs for me. Google them out if you need any Minolta repair service. (They fixed a 50mm f1.4 MC Rokkor for me, for $40).

Congrats... I think this is a better deal than the Zenitar.

Good Deal!
I'm looking for a Takumar fisheye or a nikkor fisheye myself.

You will have a great time with your fisheye. I have the Zenitar in Pentax screw mount. The Pentax fisheye was unavailable and too expensive for a toy, so I got the Zenitar. I use it on six Pentax bodies (DSLR, K mount, ScrewMount). I also use it on my Leica IIIf and Bessa R. You can see why I bought it. Here is an example at 2.8 (this was mounted on my IIIf):

So I should be able to use 15th of a second shutter?

Mirror slap may be an issue, but 1/8 - 1/15 should be very hand holdable in general with a lens that wide, yes.

Do you need a K mount fisheye lens or M-42?

Have fun. I had the Canon FD 7.5mm/5.6 for a few years. It was the perfect lens for a couple of shots a year. Here's a self-portrait--

If you navigate back to the main "Fisheye User Group" gallery from there, you'll find other interesting fisheye images made by various people and a variety of fisheye lenses.

I have the Canon 7.5mm/5.6 fisheye lens and also the Pentax 17mm/4 K mount lens. The Canon lens is used by me on Canon FD cameras or on Leica/Canon RF cameras via Canon Adapter B.
