I recently bought a Zarya "Dawn" rangefinder camera from 1959 but the only problem is there was no manual. So all I would like if someone can help me to make this camera operational. All reactions are welcome on beathoven@skynet.be
Thanks a lot!
It's essentially a FED 2 without a rangefinder. Why they created such a camera is still a myster4y -- except it probably reduced production costs. You have to guesstimate distance and set the lens and shutter speed accordingly which can be tricky if you subject is close and there isn't much light. Just remember to cock the shutter before changing the shutter speed.
I have a Zarya, fair condition. It is excellent camera for the street, just set the aperture and focus and shoot away from the hip. It is very robust and reliable, and usually receives a positive reaction from strangers. Some Zarya shots here: http://www.photo.net/shared/community-member?user_id=646233
