View Full Version : Where to send C-3 for repair ?

Greetings !

Over the years, I've acquired a couple of "Bricks", played with them, then put them aside.

A few years back, my father -in-law gave me his old C-3, which he finally retired because the shutter stopped working. (Feels like the spring has broken or come unhooked, when you go to cock the shutter?)

Around that time, my wife was getting all her Dad's kodachromes put onto CD Rom, and I was impressed by how nice they looked - they were all shot with the
C-3.

So, I'm wondering if there's someone out there I can send his "Brick" to to see about repairing the shutter... the camera body and lens are really clean, and I have a couple of bricks I could offer as parts donors...

Are there C-3 specialists "out there" ?

Thanks,

Luddite Frank

given that they tend to cost about $2 on the bay... I don't know that I'd bother repairing it - granted the nostalgia/personal connection is strong.

Maybe try working on it yourself? They are very simple mechanisms, and pretty easy to get into.

While my two C3's haven't needed any work I've seen quite a bit of information out there on repairing C3s. Rick Oleson has a diagram of the C3's shutter right here (http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-120.html) and body disassembly instructions at the bottom of this page (http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-86.html). You may want to give it a try. Good luck!

The repair manual for the C3 (along with some other useful info) is posted on the Argus Collectors Group web site ( http://arguscg.tripod.com/ ). Also there are several very talented C3 repairers in the group as well.

YOu may go here for a website that will CLA a C3 for $95: http://www.camerarepair.com/prices/repairs/Argus-B4/C3-C683.html

Since the CLA cost is 10 times the cost of another ebay Brick, the one you repair should be in incredible condition. You could buy 10 C3 bricks off of ebay and hope one would work well.
