Hi,

anyone use a dye-sub printer like the Mitsubishi CP3020DAE? (For the Mac) or the old Kodak 1400 (now discontinued).

thanks
Phil.

Hi,

I use an epson picturemate 240. Very good quality and prints directly from my 20d.

I use a HiTouch S400, bought at B&H. Excellent quality, but a bit slow.

1400. Seems fine. No ink to dry up

I use a Hi-Touch 730 PS - which prints up to 6x8. No complaints on that one - excellent driver support and prints.

I also have an orphaned Olympus P440 - which prints up to 8x10. I rarely use the Olympus, as its media film and paper are much more expensive. The prints from the Oly are less saturated than those from the Hi-Tech.

The mechanicals of the Olympus P440 are made by Mitsubuishi. Unfortunately, Olympus abandoned the line and I don't believe anyone has come up with drivers to allow the printer to work with Vista or the latest versions of OS X.

I use a midget Sony for small enlargements - it works well enough that I'd consider a larger format model.

I used to own HiTouch 730 up until about two years ago. Used it occasionally for about a half year. Acquired one based upon multiple rave online reviews, but wasn't really impressed with print quality. Haven't being able to obtain a good, sharp print with well defined colors, the pictures, otherwise printed fine on ink-jet photo printers and at pro lab, always appeared to be somewhat muddy on that dye-sub.
Sold one.
