View Full Version : Anyone going to photofair this Saturday?
Hi all,
Is anyone going to the photofair this Saturday?
Mike
Hi Carl,
It's in San Jose. I've never been to it, but I'm looking for a 50 finder and I thought I'd check it out.
Ad for it (http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/pho/443264009.html)
I might go, Mike. I need a couple of things, too. I've never been to the San Jose one. I'll have to bring along my son, but he loves photo fairs.
:)
I might go, lots of cool stuff to check out.
Ah, that's a little out of my way...O well, maybe next time.

I might go... Depends on how much fun money I have.

Thanks for posting this event. If my yardman doesn't come because of rain I may go.
I'm going to be there around 10:00, and I'll keep an eye out for everyone. If anyone sees a total dork with a canvas shoulder bag and glasses, that's probably me.
Man if i was visitng Cali around that time I would definately be checking it out. Unfortunately I'm all the way on the east coast. Well there goes that.

Yep, I'll be there. Drop the wife off at work at 10, and then head on over the hill.
Just look for the white guy in his 30's looking at camera stuff.
Let me know if anyone wants to carpool from the peninsula and save the planet for another day...
So what did you guys all get? I saw Ray there with his son, and couldn't beleve he was leaving empty handed!
I picked up a B+W skylight KR1.5 from filterfind for $15, along with an extra 42 Leitz 14268 rubber cap. Pretty sure these are knock offs (the leitz caps) as my original 14268's are slightly less deep, unless the design changed.
Also got a 3 filter case which I might use for my VC II meter for $1.00 used, exc., and some small binoculars with great glass for $20.
Lots of dealers were interested in buying my 35/2 crons., and I didn't see any v4 or asphs for sale. The most tempting lens there was an exc. cond. late 90 2.8 elmarit for $400, but I contained myself and made it out of there relatively unscathed.
Yes, I left with nada. There was some interesting stuff, but on the whole it was the same ol' same ol' stuff. Took my son to a b-day party and went out shooting. :)

My rant for the day... If people are going to come to a packed event like this with narrow isles, it would be peachy-keen if they could choose between an appaling lack of spacial awareness and a camera bag large enough to conceal a corpse. One or the other is manageable, but both at the same time is a bit much.
Now that's off my chest, I feel slightly better. On to the goodies. I found the main thing that I was looking for, a case for my Leica III. It's beat up and ugly, but it was $5 and I have it in my paws in time for a reenacting event next weekend. Found some expired Polaroid 669 film to join my $3 thrift store Polaroid 250 Land Camera in my first excursion into Polaroid transfers sometime in the very near future.
I didn't get away so easily. I picked up a cap for a Summar, a knock-off LTM-M adapter, and a LTM 50 Elmar f2.8. I was hoping to find a 75mm summilux in one of the $5 bins, but no such luck. I almost picked up a Agfa Silette with a 50 and 90 for a friend, but the price was a bit high. Most of the stuff I saw, other than filters and stuff, wasn't that great of a deal.
Yeah, I was a bit worried about knocking stuff over and I have a small bag. When it got busy and people would just stand in the aisle and stare at stuff, I took off.
Just curious did you pay a lot for that elmar? and if you ever get tired of it let me know.

I agree. I had to circulate several times to see all the tables, and I was getting irritated. I was surprised to see several Canon 35/2.8 lens "kits." The seller with the RD-1 had some nice lenses. She was still trying to sell the same old Kobalux 28mm from over a year ago. I was looking for a darkroom timer (the big black Gralab one). I found one, but the seller wouldn't budge, and I know I can get a used one cheaper. I've got my eye on some Nikon DSLR "hardware" ;) right now, so I didn't bring a lot of cash with me.

Looking forward to seeing the D3 at the next meeting! :)
Carl, got the Elmar for 280. It's looks hardly used but does have a very faint scratch in the coating. I'll bring it when I drop off the magnifier, although I know you really want the Summar for your M8.

you bet I do! I kind of want a collapsible summicron or elmar for my M6 though, not going to lie.
But I don't want to buy one hah

well, maybe sometime in the not too distant future. Actually, I was talking with a local seller about a lens, a little DSLR accoutrement. I'll bring it to the next meeting. :)
btw Mike. I checked the Rollei strap and it works!
.
Ray, you're really heading towards the dark side ;)
Actually I regularly cringe at the high quality and low prices, and ability to use low cost glass that those evil mongo huge plasticy things can do, but for me, they can also ultimately just cause more time wasted in front of the computer. It's so refreshing for me to be mostly using film again, though I wonder if it's a matter of time before I get sucked up by the lure...

I don't see it as "the dark side." It's all light to me. ;) It's all photography. Besides, who did I see on Saturday fondling an RD-1?

I don't understand this. :) Photoshop is a digital darkroom. I spend as much time in it with film as I do with digital. You should become proficient with it, otherwise you will forever be paying someone else do your work. :)

Heh heh, Ted wasn't the only one who fondled it. The viewfinder was nice, but the patch kept disappearing on me, I'm guessing because of my glasses and eye position. I'm waiting for the M10.
Oh yeah, I saw the Fuji 6x7 below the RD-1, wow, that thing's big.

and you two weren't the only ones, either. I saw a couple and the guy kept pointing at it and talking to his SO in whispers. I think he was trying to convince her. I left him to his misery. I could see it wasn't going anywhere. An hour later, Ted's got his 35 'cron twisted on it, and the Vegas lady is asking him how much he wants for the lens. :)
Don't sell it yet Ted! I know a local buyer that wants it in a few months.:)
With film, I tend to shoot less photos, I could never afford the 200 snaps per outing that I do with digital, so I'm a bit more careful about framing and content (usually ... ;)).
I'm not really into photoshop, in a way it's so powerful, that it can make terrible photos look good, but I'd much rather try to get better during the capture.

yeah, that instant feedback of the RD-1 with m-glass is very addictive, thank god, the size is huge, and the quality and support clunky, or I'd possibly be using those regularly :p

I think that one was OK, RF seemed aligned, and as I recall patch size was about the same as two other RD1s I've owned. The patch size is smaller than that on an M6 or M4P and possibly fainter as well. The lady said she would go down to $1500, but she only had the charger, no box, manual, warranty or anything, so it would be a risky buy.
