just got one:

http://www.mysimon.com/9015-10945_8-40985331.html

at the local Marshalls for $16. Fits the M6 with 35/2 cron asph great, with little pockets for cell, film, etc.

at first it appears purse like, but for a short person, it hangs right in the armpit and is comfortable. Strap is short and non-adjustable. YKK zippers, lifetime warranty. Recommend the all black for a low key bag.

Ted...that's a purse. :D Seriously, looks good but not my bag. ;) Thanks for posting the link.

In the other colors, it definitely looks like one. In all black, it's actually quite rectangular and there's a great pocket inside for the asph hood, fits a thick blackberry and a 2nd cell. Something this useful can't be a purse!

I'm glad it works for you, but it's a purse...

Sorry, Ted, but I gotta vote with Ray on this one. Your own comment ("at first it appears purse like") pretty much sums it up. But if it works for you then who are we to question it. Heck, my wife calls my Domke F-5XB a purse (as in, "don't forget your purse" as we're heading out the door) so I guess I'm just the pot calling the kettle black.

Try the manly Timbuk2 messenger bags.

it's actually quite rectangular....
So if it's rectangular, it's not a purse?

But hell, I've always called all my bags purses. My Tango (laptop bag), my 5XB, and my 803. They may be bulky, but they're still purses. ;)

Nothing like a good man bag...I carry mine everywhere. (Domke 803) Although I guess that's more of a messenger bag, but regardless.

If it works then go with it!

I think you guys might be right on this. It does look purse like, but loaded with the camera and gadgets, it just feels useful. Don't think I can quite go out of the house with this though.

Yes, the rectangular vs boat shape does seem to make bags more neutral IMHO, note the domke's are very rectangular shaped. Also, thick straps are good, and the Timbuk 2 had that going for it.

Here's a leather bag below that sells at a local store, that at first looked interesting until I saw the obvious giveaway thin straps, that it was definitely a woman's backpack, although if it had thick straps or a shoulder strap, I'd probably have bought it:

Jeez. You get old and start to think that only kids are subject to peer pressure ... ;)

Yup. Definitely a purse.

The Timbuk2 bag I carry as a purse (it is an XS messenger bag) looks more manly than that.

I like that Swing thing as a purse -- if they still made it I'd check it out for that purpose.

OK...you're really pushing your luck with that last one.
I thought the first one was bad...

In general, before I mistakenly bought this "camera bag" thing, I always have found the Timbuk2 products to be a bit too flashy and too colorful with straps and logos than I like.

If you want this Swing bag, you can have it. I work in the fidi, but can stop along any bart exit. I still have the tags. Also, the SB Marshalls near Tanforan had at least 1 more new one there for $16 in black.

I applaud your efforts, Ted. No one pursues the quest for the camera bag holy grail like you do. Thanks. Looking forward to more discoveries!
