Hi

My two Oleged Fed 1g '' Leicas '' have always suffered from that greyish chrome - especially in contrast to my two lovely black and nickel Leica II s [ hardly unexpectedly perhaps ! ]

However , I happened to open a pot of old gold acrylic paint ... and wondered ...

Now they may not match exactly , but are more of a family - and if the '' nickel '' wears off - it's easy to fix !

... and the real nickel Elmars are now at home on the young upstarts !

Thanks Stephane -and CVBLZ4 ??
First pic is one Fed before gilding and another after [ with the dish shutter release ]
Second are the two Feds almost finished . [ before blacking screws and finder frames etc ]
Third , the two Leicas [ small shutter buttons ] in front of the pretenders .

The paint finish on the Feds looks like matt brass , quite different from the patina nickel of the Leicas , but much more ' in keeping ' with the real thing .

Which is why I did it - not a copy , but a tribute ?
