View Full Version : I really like that Fed-2
Post deleted by author request.
I got a Fed 2 about 8 months ago and normally leave it in my truck as a take everywhere camera. I have both rangefinders and SLRs and find the Fed one of my favorites. Need to start shooting some XPS2 in it. It has the 61L/D or the J12 on it normally.
I keep a FED 2 with a J-8 at work. As long as I don't point the camera in the direction of one of the windows, exposure is dead on at f/2.8 or f/4 and 1/30th of a second.
I recently purchased a Fed2-d from Cupog with CLA. It is a terrific shooter with a J8. Currently a CV 25 Snapshot Skopar lives on it. I am planning on getting another Fed2 for the J8. I think that this will make a nice compact two body kit.

The I-26 is a very underated lens, I like the older ones with the lever focus, they look a little better on the camera too.
Hi Daniel,
My fed 2 was one of my first rangefinders and the first roll of film I ever put through it has one of my favourite pics ... of my neighbour Helen. The lens was also the I-26 and I really like the look it gives with a bit of flare and not too much contrast.

Fed 2 is my favourite FSU camera, among Zorki-3, -6, and fed 3,5. there is just something right about it.
With a model like that, Daniel, any camera and lens would fly.
Is your neighbour's picture deliberately dark, Keith?

I've gone and bought a black FED-2 from ebay. Is there any way of dating these cameras?

Out of curiosity: what's a FED 3,5? I know a FED 3, a FED 5 and a FED 35, but not a Three Point Five.

sorry, its not fed3,5 but I meant fed3 and 5 :)

It's funny you should ask that because I was looking at Daniel's pics and looking at my own and wondering why I like dark images ... I like daniel's portraits a lot because they reflect his taste in what pleases him in an image but they seem to be the opposite end of the spectrum to mine. It's good that we all have our own interpretation of what we like visually and there is no standard that we have to adhere to.
That's just my long winded excuse for under exposure! :p :p :p

just post it here when you get it, somebody will know :) I dont think you can date them by serial number. but you could find out which version it is 2a, 2b, etc

Ok, this is the camera... or what the seller's showing it to be anyway...

I do heavily suspect he's reported the lens as being the wrong sort, going off the inscription on the lens itself.
Vodka? Hmm... :)

Thanks. I was suspecting it to be that model, but with so many variations I couldn't be sure. :)
Hi Daniel,
You have some great Fed shots ... I'm really enjoying this thread. Here's one of my favourite pics with my Fed, of my son's cat ... Katy!

How about some Fed shots from other people? :)
